Building A Competition Airsoft Pistol

Hey Guys, me here again. I am curious if anyone around here has built a "competition" style airsoft pistol.

The kind of gun that I am talking about is something that looks like this;
http://images.google.ca/imgres?imgur...PpCIGeMYjciJUD

or this

These look to be the type of guns that these guys are using in one of those IPSC Practical Shooting competitions;
YouTube - Airsoft IPSC HKASA SHOOTERS

I briefly attended an event like this in Edmonton last weekend and after watching the guys shoot, it dawned on me that if I wanted to get into something like this, my Glock G18C just wouldn't cut the mustard.

It got me thinking that it might be fun to try to put together a pistol like this, specifically for speed and accuracy shooting competitions.

Anyway I am looking for suggestions on what you would recommend as a good platform to start with for such a project. Does anyone know of one particular GBB pistol that is more accurate than another?

I am one to all sorts of ideas, in particular it would be nice to find a platform that is available in Canada.

Let me know what you think please

Later

Gordo

Read up on CAPS, a Toronto based IPSC style club. Also:

Hey Great thread surebet! Thanks for the tip.

So based on what I am seeing, a lot of these guns seem to be built on a Hi-capa frame. Looks like lots of accessories and upgrades are available for this style of gun. I will keep doing some more research though before I make my decission.

Would still like to hear from guys who have already researched this topic and built their own Race Guns to hear what they have to say about them.

Thanks again

Gord

Here's a guide from another forum, really helps. Might not be up to date in the past year, but its still a great place to start.

I use a KJW PT92 and it is extremely accurate, all metal (slide as well) and the mags are cheaper then a lot of other GBB mags and holds 27+1 rounds , not very cheap though it's $200 but if your fast you'll get a good rate of fire as well.

Best base gun to start with would be a tm 5.1, you will find the most accessories available for it.

There are three divisions for ipsc; production, standard and open. Deciding what division you intend to compete in will help you decide hat kind of gun you want to build, the pics you posted of the compensated pistols would be in the open division

I've had 2 race guns (basically the exact same gun both times) and loved both. Just don't have the time or ability to get out to CAPS. It would be a ton of fun to do so, just not realistic for me.

A Hicapa base is definitely one of the best options. Oodles of upgrades, parts, metal slides, grips, etc.

So is that another way of saying that the 4.3 model can shoot more rounds faster than the 5.1 ?

Gordo

Holy Snot; Illusion that is a magnificent collection of guns you have or have had there.
I suspect that I will be sending you a PM in the near future. Tee Hee Hee

I've never heard of the 4.3 having a shorter cycle than the 5.1. As far as I knew the only difference was that the 4.3 had a shorter slide and barrel, and a different frame. But the action and internals are completely identical.

might be slightly faster because of the lower inertia of the shorter slide, but I believe the actual stroke is the same....

btw Brian, this looks familiar...

start with a tm 5.1

there"s tons of tricks and tuning stuff you can do. unless you"re a phenom...the pistol will outshoot you.

once you get a feel for what you want a little more of...the 5.1 is an easier base to work with.
