What's an Ak-74
Hey all, (This comes in 2 sections, first on the AK74, 2nd on the Dragunov)
So, im waiting for my cm042 to come, and am looking into my next gun (maybe) Its an AK74, but its the short one, like this : http://www.airsoftgi.com/images/imag...wood-angle.jpg not this : http://www.airsoftgi.com/images/pic-...d-aks-74-D.jpg But since i love the Kalashinov series, im gonna ask a few questions. 1. Whats the U,N,S,M, and other letters that someones appear behind the AK74's name mean? (example : AKS 74 UN or Full Metal AK-74M) 2.What are the cosmetic/phyical differences between the 47,74, and 105? 3. Anyone know of an AK74, short version, with real wood/quality imitation wood, and a sliding stock like the one here? : http://www.airsoftgi.com/images/cm028s-wood-B.jpg |

1. - U = shortened, N = scope plate, S = folding stock, M = modernized.
2. Almost everything is in one way or another different on the AK-47 and AK-74. The AK-105 is basically a 74 with a full folding polymer stock and foregrips, shortened front end (unified front sight and gas block) scope plate, and smooth, flared over safety, top cover. Other small differences exist. 3. There are no Soviet underfolding AK-74 variants, except one of the very first prototypes. |

Maybe god be with you, cause these types of questions aren't going to go well with most people here. I'll answer some of your questions in short. The AK-47 and AK-74/101/102etc have lots of little differences in the receiver, pistol grip, front grip and front assembly. Will... basically they're quite different and alike in design. If we're talking about cosmetic differences then google is your friend, cause you can easily distinguish the differences through images of the rifles.
By-the-way if you want quality AK then you might want to get age verified and look into a Real Sword TYPE 56, similar to the last image you provided which is not an AK-74. Last edited by Cheeseman; February 17th, 2009 at 21:08.. |

I would bet a great deal of money that ancorp knows more about AK's than anyone else on this board.
I also enjoyed learning about the letter designations A+ to ancorp

I don't see what the advantage of a folding stock in airsoft would really be... when are you really going to consciously sit there and fold it/ unfold it

The AKS74U is really sweet. Over time, I've had and parted ways with 3 AK's so far...they just weren't my thing. But this one is different...just plain bad a**.
![]() The CYMA rebrand is solid, decently assembled (and I can be pretty picky), and is very "pointable" as is. No need for rails, fancy grips or anything like that. I don't know how it'll hold up...but it seems solid. I'll dive into the mechbox in a couple of weeks. So following Ancorp's designations... AK 74 = 5,45x39 mm round S = folding stock...in this case a left side folder U = shortended and since this one has a side scope/red-dot mount...I suppose it's really a AKS74UN...did I get it right? ![]() Tys |

When you play inside it's very useful. You often need a shorter gun to go around corners and such. A folding stock is very useful and I would never give up mine.
