Stripping paint from G&G GR25
Mad Update:
Here's pics of it blasted and engraved!! See post on third page for some more pics.        Hey, so I've got a G&G GR25 and I'd like to strip the paint because I want to get it engraved with realistic trades. Just curious if I could just shoot it with acetone or if I should use something different such as peroxide or benzyl alcohol or something. I'm not entirely sure on the composition of the G&G construction material, although WGC shop says its either aluminum or magnesium (they state both of these as build materials). Now AFAIK acetone shouldn't do a thing to the metal and would just strip the paint. Just wanted to be sure before I went through with it. Thanks in advance.

I use BEHR paint stripper, comes in a spray can, $10 at Homedepot, you just watch it bubble up and scrape off. That stuff is caustic and eats skin tho...

Okay, that sounds pretty good. But if I used one of these solvents wouldn't it basically just dissolve the paint with it so I wouldn't even have to peel it off? It would just come off with the solvent as liquid dissolved into the solvent.

A break fluid operation is best. Strip down all the nessessary parts and buy a gallon of B fluid and let 'em soak for a few hours, or a day if you so desire. Find a grungy tooth brush and scrape it off. It works best IMO.

Okay, will try those. I'm going to do it some time after this weekend as this will probably be the last game of the season for me. Otherwise I'm going with a stripped receiver, which is probably a good idea since the metallic colour will blend better with the snow than black :P.

Yes, acetone will dissolve ABS (Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) since it is a form of styrene.

Yeah I knew that, but operating under the assumption that G&G uses metal receivers (although it sure feels like some light metal..)

Sandblasting ended up being the only reasonable way to do it.. Was using the heaviest paint strippers I could find, and only one was taking it off, but it was doing it very poorly and was taking forever. Will post pics of it once engraved
