crane battery mod

hey,

i have a prime crane style stock with a 2400 nicd sanyo battery. although the battery does fit into the stock i dont think it was made for it specifically.

i plan on opening it all up and redoing it from scratch so that it is more solid and so it fits better with less hassle.

my concern is that i want to know if you guys have any special techniques when reassembling batteries as far as casings are concerned. i have thought of doing the whole thing in shrink wrap (heat shrink) but i doubt that would turn out well.

how would i get a think hardshelled plastic casing around the battery like when it was purchased? any ideas?

that hard shell plastic is heat shrink. it's a different material fo heatshirnk then the stuff you buy at say radio shack or Canadian tire. but it works and does the exact same thing. It just has the advantage of being harder when shrunk and much much thinner.

the trick I learned to shrink it smooth is to use yoru stove, set it to medium heat and hold above the element a goof 3 - 5 inches.. rotate the battery around and you'll get a nice smooth and tight shrink every time. heat guns and lighters might/will burn the shrink and you'll have to start again .. the store gives offa nice even and relativly low ammount of heat that is just right to use with this stuff.

thanks for the info, i had no idea.

im guessing i can pick it up at a local electronics strore, unless there is somewhere specific to find this type of heat shrink.

Due to the rising cost of hydro, i would suggest the lighter. If it can roast marshmellows to perfection, they can shrink the shit on a battery.

ok basically got the battery fixed....somewhat....

it barely fits (because i like to keep my stock in a collapsed position rather than retracted) and i dont think that it will last over time.

i am strongly considering downgrading my battery.

i believe that the length of the individual battery is shorter and has a smaller diameter than the one that i have now...i would just like to confirm this.

the first pic is the battery that i want to get (1900mah) and the second one is the monster battery that i currently have.

no. they have the same sized cell. only difference is ones nimh and ones nicd.

Actually, they're both NiCd.

The 1900mAh cell is only *slightly* smaller. 42.9mm long versus 43.5mm.

it's like that. i'm surprised you can even collapse it all the way. I refuse to do it to mine.

G&P has a nice solution for that, but it requires cutting the receiver's tube. Doing so gives you tons of room to do a complete collapse.

well thats the thing...i figured that it wasnt meant to collapse all the way, but i spoke to "Batman" and he told me that his collapsed with no issues...

i dont get it...i even when to go see bruce to help come up with a solution, and although he has made his best attempt with what he has to work with, there are still issues...

im at a loss.

I think it takes a bit of fancy dremel work to make it go all the way. Mine's the same way, but I play with it almost fully extended all the time anyways.

according to your link illusions the 1700 battery has a height of 34 mm...do u think it is enough to clear it properly?

maybe. But you do realize that is a different class cell. The diameter is smaller and internal resistances are higher.

You lose all the benefits of using the Prime stock buy using that cell. You might as well get the G&P one in that case which has a much more elegant battery solution using those exact 1700mAh A-cells. Not only that, but the dimensions are closer to real steel.
