SVD Scope
So my new SVD just arrived. I've had the PSO for it for a while now, waiting for it to arrive. Now that the rifle is in my hands, I realize that I have no idea how to install it at all. The scope and rifle instruction manuals don't come with instructions on how to clamp the scope on. When I put the two parts together, it seems like one half of the scope locks onto the rifle, but the other does not. In addition, there's some sort of silver metal screw that doesn't seem to do much of anything on the scope. Do I need some sort of special optic mounting thing?

Okay, I'm reading this manual, http://www.ar15.com/content/manuals/pos1.pdf , which is for the real deal. Supposedly I release the lever on top and slide the scope right onto the rail...which isn't happening here. It's just not catching.

So you have something like this right?
Pull that white lever to the back, the side that doesnt have the words. Then turn the scope around to the other side and you should see this You can see in the picture that theres a silver knob thing at the front of the rail part. That thing is suppose to go between the 2 rails on the side of the rifle. So put that into the rails and it should just slide on. If that doesn't work, you are probably trying to mount an AK scope on a SVD.

I dont think anything affects that silver block. The lever only interacts with the screw, where the lever is attached. It losens the screw so the rails come a bit further apart so it can go over the rails on the gun. Then, when you lock the lever forward, it tightens the screw so it clamps to the rails on the gun.

Okay, just tried it out. No dice. That silver lever? I've checked on the other side. Whether it's in the locked position or not, nothing seems to chance regarding that silver screw at all. No movement on any part of the mount. Also, I'm pretty sure I've got the position of the scope right, I just have no idea why it's not locking again. I'm pretty sure it's the silver lever, again. It's like the scope can't completely lock onto the rifle properly. The rails aren't meshing properly together or something.

AFAIK, the silver lever isn't changing anything that you see there.

Lever to the rear of the scope unlock unlock scope to rail Lever to the front of the scope lock scope to rail With the scope unlocked the scope should be able to slide onto the rail. Last edited by Kingsix; August 14th, 2012 at 22:37.. |

That's what I've been doing. I slide, it moves to the end of the rail and stops where it's supposed to. I flip the lever to lock it, and nothing happens. The scope proceeds to fall of. It's just not clamping for some reason.

No real idea if this will help
http://russianoptics.net/Concepts.html http://www.warriortalk.com/archive/i...p/t-81889.html http://www.warriortalk.com/showthread.php?67498 (2nd last post in thread maybe?) There's some other links in those threads that might lead you to a solution similar to what you need. If it's completely wrong...apologies if I've confused things Tys Last edited by m102404; August 14th, 2012 at 22:40.. |

The part in the red circle is too high up. There should be an adjustment screw at one of the green circles. The yellow circle contains a nub kind of thing that is suppose to go inbetween the rails on the gun, after you have loosened the red part.

Hmm. The only screw I see on the entire thing is the screw below the lever. Would that drop the block down? I don't see any screws on the lever itself.

This piece here is the only thing resembling a screw on the entire set up. I can't turn it more than a millimeter, though. When I pressed down on it with my screwdriver, though, I found the entire silver assembly, including the silver block, moved higher. It reverts back to its original position once I stop applying pressure, though. I tried turning the lever while pushing up, but it doesn't seem to do anything. So it looks like this. Is it possible I have to apply this pressure while mounting it to the gun? If so, that'd be a massive pain in the ass.
