Lipo safe charging bag
I know that Illusion was selling some a while ago, but he doesn't seem to have any left in stock.
Anybody know where I can buy one? In Canada preferably, if nobody keeps one then any place will do. Thanks |

Sounds like Illusion has you covered, but for others, you can get battery bags at any good RC shop.

Oh, found it - it's still there (I know, my thread is extremely long and convoluted):

you mean you guys don't wrap your lipos in oily rags and old news papers before charging them?

In a pinch, I put my lipo in a ammo can with the lid lightly propped open while charging it. I can't seem to always find my bomb bag.

I don't use my LiPo sack anymore...for some reason, it heated up my LiPos, all of them, which made me go WTF? quite a few times.
I just use this old ammo box with a fan cooling it down....

It wasn't the sack that was heating up your lipo's... it's because your charging current rate was way too high for the pack! :P

I disagree. I was charging them at just 5C for a 5000mah 30C pack.
So I dunno.

5C? Wow... No wonder you're having overheating issues. 5C on a 5000mAh pack is equivalent to a 25Amp charge rate! Even thinking about charging a NiCad pack at that rate is absolutely insane, and NiCad packs are fairly robust!
You're definitely charging WAY too high. Even a high quality pack shouldn't be charged at more than 2C or 3C AT MOST, and even most experienced RC hobbyists don't recommend more than 1C unless you're using a very high quality balancing charger with proper ventilation on the pack. No wonder you're having heat problems. Again, it's not the pack - it's your charge rate. Be glad the battery hasn't blown up yet, or worse, burned your house down to the ground or blown up beside your face while shooting your gun! One thing's for certain, the lifespan of your packs are most likely damaged. Check for swelling or bulging of the packs and toss them if they're swollen. They're now a safety hazard.

Mid-to-high grade LiPo (hobby grade, not "airsoft") take 5C no problem. They Charging at 25A is normal now for good quality packs... Ever wonder why there are 500W chargers out there? |
