Building an M16 DMR.

So I've started building myself an M16 DMR from the base gun of a G&G M16A4. I have a few questions about some of the parts that I will need:

1) RAS or RIS and How long should it be?
2) What length of silencer should I use?
3) Do I need a different than stock Outer barrel to match up with the end of the RIS/RAS and the beggining of the Silencer?

1) What kind of build are you going for? There are various flavour's of rifle out there.
2) How long is your inner and outer barrel?
3) How long will you RIS/Silencer be?

The G&G is a full length M16. What I would do in your position is:

Upgrade the inner barrel.
Upgrade the hop-up rubber
Put some sort of optic on it if you want.

I had/have a bipod on my RPK and HK416. I never use either. They seem like a good idea until they get caught on stuff, make it uncomfortable to aim down the sights of your gun, get in the way ect. If you plan to be on you belly a lot a bipod doesn't hurt.

Honestly upgrading the accuracy of your otherwise stock gun and getting a good optic should be top priority. Once you have those you can start picking out rail systems, SPR kits and the like. Spending 150-200 dollars on cosmetics, then another 100-200 on internals to find out you hate that M16 would suck.

I got rid of my M16 after my first season when I realized how large and unwieldy it is. If this is your first gun I recommend trying it out before pimping it out.

Just my 2 cents.

No, this isnt my first gun. Ive got an ICS M4A1 and this one (G&G M16A4) And I LOVE this one. Right now its the stock M16 so I didnt know what length the front end was although Im pretty sure 12 inches is the length of the front handguard (?). And About the Bipod. I hate Bipods. They are annoying and they get in the way. My L96 pisses me off when the Bipod on that gets stuck. Also, my Inner barrel is a 6.05 mm barrel. Im not sure if that close to tightbore or not but this gun is stupid accurate. Ive also already got a 40mmX(3-9) zoom ready for it.

Also, what hardness of Hopup rubber would you suggest?

To quote various gun docs,

The bore of the inner barrel means very little. As long as it is consistent. A good hop up bucking will treat you good. If I remember my M16A2 correctly, It was sub 400FPS so a Guarder Clear Soft Type should be good.

Some short mags would be nice with that too.

What kind of look are you going for? You looking for the big long rail system on the front with minimal barrel poking out and a short silencer? Or perhaps a Longer outer barrel terminating in a long/short silencer with a shorter rail in the front.

Are you using the gun as a DMR that moves actively with a squad, a two man fire team or by yourself? These are things that could greatly influence the final design of your gun.

At the end of the day it is up to what YOU want out of a rifle. Personally I like a shorter rail on the front, a longer outer barrel and a short silencer.

Hmm, you brought up some good questions. I Like your idea of having the longer outer barrel with a shorter rail system, but then having the silencer on the end but shorter. Also, I plan on moving more with a 2 man team, sniper/spotter sort of.

Also with the Hop-up, How does this look? Im sorta new to hop-up types so im not really sure.

Maybe go for the M110 sniper rifle. (based on SR-25)
Go with 5.56 mags (SR-16) but build like in the pucture. You will get a kick ass look that fit with modern deployed rifles.

Yes! Thats the style I was looking for! Except without the silencer...

So does that rail mount directly to the Upper Receiver? How much do rails like that cost?

Go to here
http://www.airsoftparts.ca/store2/in...index&cPath=65

Look at "Conversion Kits" (rails and stuff), "Other AEG parts" (barrels and stuff), "Stocks and Grips" (stocks and grips and stuff )

And then go to
http://www.airsoftparts.ca/store2/in...index&cPath=66
and look at "Hopup Units and Rubbers" and "Inner Barrels"

Then go to
http://www.airsoftparts.ca/store2/in...index&cPath=67
for suppressors/silencers

THEN...cruise through the rest of the airsoftparts store...then cry because there's soooo much nice stuff.

Once you narrow down on a rail, outer barrel, silencer...check in with Jugglez (his ASC name...he runs the store) and double check the following
1. That it'll fit your receiver threading/delta ring
2. That you've got the right threading between the barrel/silencer
3. That you're not missing any little bits for the build (i.e. low profile gas block, gas tube, SPR charging handle, different grip/etc...)
4. Optics and rings
5. etc...

DO YOUR RESEARCH and as much figuring out as possible. If you want to piss Jugglez off...don't do any research and ask a billion noobie questions. I guarantee he'll be pretty polite regardless....but it's just not polite on your part. If you take the first steps and have an idea of where you are heading...he'll help you get to where you want to go.

I have bought from Airsoftparts.ca a few times before and the service was fantastic. But along the lines of price, Can't I go offshore and find some cheaper parts in China or something (Example, Airsoft-Club.com)? Not to disregard AirsoftParts or anything, but if I can save money then I'll try to save money. However, will the quality suffer? The parts seem like normal brand-name parts.

I'm not trying to sound like some kidiot airsofter who runs on their parents allowance or anything, but the sport is expensive enough.

CNC aluminum is nice stuff strong and has some heft to it, you are gonna have to carry this thing remember, your gonna be adding a 2-3 lbs of weight id say between rails and optics and a silencer, and im not sure but real ris/ras rails if you will are aluminum too just higher quality then the clone stuff

By the time customs is done raping you with fees prolly not much savings, and youll get yer stuff ina few days from Airsoftparts, there is also airsoftdepot.ca and a bunch of others they carry different stuff, last time i dealt with Huang from airsoftdepot, he had alot of "china" brand rails and stuff at good prices, you do get whagt you pay fr as far as fit and finnish go so make sure your buying what you want quality wise so your not dissapointed, i waqs verry happy and still am with my CAVS clone, but it was a lill off in fit and the finnish was well worn out of the box lol still i wanted it cheaply, it was and i didnt expect it to be perfect, it was only for a plastic jg m4

Customs will get on me for a rail system? I thought I read somewhere that they were fine with that...

Heheheh....tell me about how expensive it can get

Fair point.

I'll say this...I've bought from Jugglez for years. I've bought many $$$$ of stuff over the years without hesitation.

Here's my rational.
1. Cheap clone stuff (ACM, element, dboys, etc....) is just pure sh*t. It's soft metal, it's out of spec, it's twisted, it's crooked, it's randomly bad. You won't know if you're getting something ok...or something that should go right into the trash until you pay for it and get it into your hands.
- Jugglez doesn't carry any of that stuff

2. Personally...I don't like ordering online with some Chinese/Asian company that may fill my order correctly, in a timely fashion and ship it quickly.....or they may not.

3. I cannot stand the randomness of what customs will...and may...and may not decide to hold for some undetermined amount of time.

4. I cannot stand getting dinged on duties (some guys say they've never been charged duties.....I've ALWAYS gotten charged duties)...just feels like a rip off.

5. I really don't like waiting for the mail...I typically miss the delivery and have to go to the post office and pick stuff up. It's not a pleasant experience...and it's a waste of my time (which I value).

6. I pick up stuff from Jugglez's place....so there's no shipping and I don't know/ask how he handles taxes. Once I factor in the cheaper price overseas...then add shipping...then add duties...I'm not too far off of Jugglez' price (he's a smart guy...and figures these things out). Once I factor in the convenience of going over...picking up what I need/want and having it in hand when I pay for it...that's worth something significant for me. And from all accounts his shipping times is pretty damn quick.

So...could I "on the books" save $5-10 bucks? Sure...but the upsides of dealing with a local retailer is huge.

....'cause we shoot the shit, check out new/neat stuff, gossip about who's being an ass of ASC , what's coming down the pipe from Asia, new builds/tech...etc...

...try chit-chatting it up with unco

Ill take that as a compliment.

First Compliment on ASC! Winning!
