I've been looking for a decent single stack full metal 1911 or 1911a1 (the a1 preferably) but it's kinda hard to find anything about most of them. I've got an M9 right now and I find my hands are too small to fit the gun that well. Most of what you hear about in the 1911 area is either the Hicappa's (which I'm not really interested in) or WE problems, or WA and TM praises (but neither is full metal out of the box).

Can anyone speak for the KJW, CA, KSC or KWA models? What's the best single stack full metal 1911 for skirmishing? Ie doesn't have to look the prettiest, just work well, stand up to punishment and last a long time.

I've read somewhere that the Guarder steel mag catch for the TM will fit the KJW. Unfortunately I can't find anyone locally selling them and $35 shipping from Asia for a $9 part is alittle ridiculous. I'd do it anyway if I had confirmation it fit, but not on a chance.

Back on topic: CA does full metal m1911's? I have a CA M15A4 and I love it to pieces. How's their 1911? Anyone own one?

The Guarder mag catch will fit with minor modification. I believe jesster202 got one and modded it to fit, so you may be able to get more details from him. I'll be doing that as well. For now, I just reversed the mag catch to a left hand config. It's not ideal since I'm right-handed, but works as a temporary measure.

As for the CA gun, I haven't heard anything about the 1911 since it's so new. As much as I also love my CA M15, they're new to the GBB game, so I'd wait a while to see if there are any kinks or durability / reliability issues with them before jumping on one.

I've also flipped mine to the lefty configuration, which you'd think would work out since I'm left handed. But my hands are too small for my thumb to reach the mag release without seriously repositioning my hand. When it was in righty config I'd push the catch with the base of the middle finger on my left hand and that worked fine.

Yeah, I just did some searches for reviews on the CA model - alot of problems. I might go with the KJW. I haven't had any trouble with my M9 other then the mag catch and the expected mag problems. But the mag problems are easily fixed and if you take care of them they don't generally occur that often. One of the biggest problems I've found with KJW was finding spare mags. I've finally got four good and one semi-good mags for my M9. I was really only looking for more mags for CQB though and I've got a TM mp5k coming in the mail (four days late, damn Canada Post) so one or two mags for a 1911 should do me.

I'd still like to hear from someone who owns, or has owned, one though. And anything about any other full metal models would be appreciated too.

However, the mags are constantly springing leaks, not from the valves, but from their main seal. This tends to be a chronic problem with most KJW guns. Not sure about their 1911 in particular though, but no reason to think it would be otherwise, as the mags are an issue with all their other guns.
Yup.

I have a KJW 1911 (actually P14.45), and damn, it is one very nice gun, but out of 7 magazines I think I have one that doesn't leak. The other issue is that the KJW 1911 is a combination of the TM and Western Arms one and as such has some proprietary parts that are impossible to find. I'm still looking for a bloody slide lock pin.

This thread is over three years old. He's already got a 1911 by now.
