My New Toy!
Well...after waiting ever so patiently, I finally recieved my new toy! A Tanaka M700 AICS. I also installed a Tasco 6-24x50AOE Illuminated Mil-dot sight with range finder! Ya I know...a bit of a over kill for the sight, but hey...it looks cool. Although the instructions are in Japanese/Chinese, I still have to play with the PCS as well the hop-up. More of the PCS is what I'm most interested in.
I performed a poor mans chrony test using those .30g I got from Bug, it shredded through the can from the side. No problems puncturing through the bottom then through the top. It split/slighty punctured the top about 1/2 cm from the lip, ricocheted and whapped me in the forehead leaving a slight red welt. I was estimated 8-10 feet from the can. Good thing I was wearing my ballastic goggles. I estimate it's shooting probably over 500fps. Gotta find info on how to adjust the PCS. I need to get some higher scope mounts as the forward part of the scope is rubbing against the barrel. I eventually will get upgrades for it, although that should be interesting.

WOWZORZ! How do you find the build quality as compared to a APS Type 96?
|

I've never owned a APS Type 96 before. This is the first gas powered sniper rifle I've bought. I've previously owned a SP M40A1 of which I sold to buy this beast. The SP M40A1 was a springer that had a PCI 200% spring in it. That shot around 490fps with .25g. Also had a PCI 300% spring and well...the fps was off the charts, way into the mid 500 fps with .25g bb's. I've fired a few rounds through my M700 earlier and found cycling the bolt was extremely easy. I could use my pinky finger with no probs. Very very quiet! I couldn't see the white bb's in flight either. All I heard was a dull thuff and that was it. I'm very impressed with the build quality as it doesn't squeak or creak. Very solid, and a bit on the heavy side. I still have to experiment with the PCS as I first got to either learn how to read Japanese or get someone to translate the instructions. LOL!!! I'll try to write a review on this gun once I get more educated on the PCS.

Welcome to the club! I got to fiddle with mine this weekend. One thing to mention - when/if you disassemble the bolt the first time, do it over a white dropsheet or in a ziplock bag. There's a couple of tiny parts that flew out of mine and it took 3 of us with taclights almost 10 minutes to find it in the carpet.
I was really impressed by the build quality, too. This thing is solid, and heavy - more than twice the weight of a VSR-10 I handled at the same time.

Did you manage to figure where the PCS is? I'm not sure where about it is on the bolt. As well, I still have to figure how to remove the bolt from the gun. LOL!!

if it's anything like the Tanaka M24, it'll be on the underside of the bolt. Man I miss my M24.

congrats on getting the AICS. man am i loving mine right now. there is a little hidden button right infront of the trigger, push it in and the bolt will easily slide out. did you guys ever knew that cocking the gun only takes around 2-4 cm of pulling back to bolt?

That rifle is sweet. I think I'll have to pick one up for myself in the next WGC order.
How many rounds can you fire before you have to re-charge the mag?

IIRC if you rotate the wheel Counter-clockwise, the wheel moves towards the back of the bolt and velocity goes down. I could only get mine to go towards the back.....I think it may be to prevent the velocity from creeping too high....until I realized that the 2 slotted screws on the underside of the bolt need to be removed. Once I did that, the bolt came apart and a spring will come out. If you look down the inside of the bolt towards the wheel, you'll see a slot for a flathead screwdriver. Simply turn that, and the wheel will move towards the front of the bolt and your velocity will go up. Reassemble carefully....I had to fiddle with the bolt while reassembling because I couldn't get those slotted-head screw holes to line up. Try putting the bolt on end (straight up and down) with the bolt handle on the table and the bolt face in the air, and press down slightly to compress the spring inside the bolt.

That thing is hot, thats the only thing I basically can say!

Well...I did another poor man's chrony this morning. This time I let the mag warm up to room temp. From the distance of 8-10 feet, the .30g bb went through the centre of the top of the can and dented the hell of the inside as it ricocheted around inside of the can. I really enjoy this rifle. Can't wait till I get to use it at a game!
I have yet to experiement with the PCS. I'm kinda scared to try propane to see what the velocity is like. I'll have to use my brother-in-laws chrony to actual test the fps. There's a few upgrades I would like to try as per what ILLusion instructed, until then I'll record what fps I'm getting using green gas as well PCS adjustments. Scruface, thanks for the info. As for the rounds per recharge, I don't really know as I only fired maybe 23 rnds. I didn't fully fill the mag either. Once I start experiementing with the PCS and such, I'll find out and let you know Raymond. All I can say to those who are curious and wondering to purchase this fine gas powered sniper, go for it. Tanaka is now manfacturing these guns without the PCS so they are going to be hard to find with, due to the FPS limits in Japan. I've been told by WGC they no longer sell the Tanaka M700 AICS with the PCS as they are sold out on the older model with PCS. I'm very impressed with the quality of this rifle. I found it to be solid and sound.

I love it, I definitely want one.
I'm torn whether I want this more or a Kar98 which I'd love to have. Don't think I'd game the Kar98, I could definitely see myself gaming the M700. Its beautiful Congrats.

after i filled it up with 5 seconds of gas, i shot around 80 rounds of .30g bbs and i'm still going. i'll tell you when i run out out gas, i probably didn't even fill the mag to the top with propane yet...
