adjusting aimpoint style red dot scope
Just got a red dot style scope for my G3. No instructions. When I aim the red dot at the target, the BB's hit lower. How do you line up the dot with where the gun points. Have tried to lower the dot in the scope with the top adjusting 'ring', not getting the accuracy.
Any info would be great. Thanks |

How far away from the target are you?

Is your hop up set to perfection?

I'm testing it in the basement, so the distance is only about 20 feet, and I believe the hop up is tuned. Best way to test the accuracy and make adjustments would be at the next game at Deadlands? Maybe zero it in on some CADPAT, right Lisa? Thanks.

20ft is no where close enough to properly sight the weapon. Even on the most extreme hopup, you will see no difference at 20 ft.
What you said is correct, wait until you can (safely) test it outdoors, or in a larger area inside.

My red dot scope is mounted on the handle of my m4 so naturally it is higher than the barrel. I just take it for granted that whatever Im aiming at with the red dot , my shot will be below it. When your aiming at a target such as a person for instance, if my red dot is on his shoulder I should be able to hit him mid section like his or hers waistline. Anyway I just use it for a guideline, if I use it at all. I just watch the bbs when I fire to get my targets most of the time.
just my 2 cents.

Take your gun outdoors on a nice calm day, the less wind the better. Ideally you shout put your gun in a vice, or something else that will prevent your gun from moving, but you should still be okay just shooting it normally. Adjust your hop up so that the bb's follow a nice straight path, not curving up or dropping off too soon. Shoot at a target about 75-100 feet away. If your gun is in a vice, just adjust the dot to where the bb's are hitting. If your firing it normally, adjust the dot until the bb's hit where your aiming, simple as that. I dont know what kind of scope you have, but the elevation/windage will probably be in 1/4 MOA increments, AKA 1/4" at 100 yards. What this means is, at 75 feet (25 yards) 16 "clicks" will move the dot the equivalent of 1 inch. Basically, you'll probably have to turn the dials a lot to notice a difference.
