Tanaka's model is an M700 AICS.
Star's is an L96A1.

The two are replicas are two totally different guns that share the same chassis. Regarding the real steel versions: The bolt & barrel are made by two totally different companies. The chassis is the only comparable part of the two guns. The two guns also fire different calibers (.338 vs .50 cal) hence, why the guns look different.

I have one of the G&G Power Bolts for sale, but the velocity it'll put you at will be above any field limits in Ontario (with propane.)

Define "it."

I was never a fan of the Maruzen one either. I think it was mainly the fact that the chassis was black that turned me away from it. :P

I have read about the tanaka version and it looks impressive.
And as you said illusion, I would have bought the maruzen version if it hadn't been in black, OD or desert owns.

I also notice that King Arms has a M700/AICS replacement nozzle out:

Dunno if this is an upgrade of the "PCS" nozzle or simply a replacement for people who bought the new restricted-nozzle Tanaka rifles.....

It looks like this one will open up the restricted bolts.

The current Tanaka M700s in production have the restriction inside the nozzle. If you replace the nozzle with this one, it looks like it should work... sweet.

As to whether it can also act as an upgrade to the pre-ban version... someone's just gonna have to buy one and find out.

hey illusion, isn't the .50cal version called the AW50? the .338 Lapua is also called the AWSM or Arctic Warfare Super Magnum too.. bahh, i go and read too much.

i've got a post ban AICS, maybe i'll check that KA nozzle out...

sorry am not in canada, appreciate though ur offer. the UN coy guy told me that g&g power bolt was a whopping HK$2000! guess he was way off the mark. that is ALOt compared to the AICS itself, which is abt HK$3000 there. but i saw like u said its only US$150 or so.

The un coy guy said even if u ordered online from them the Deepfire grens, will take 1 month to arrive.. his exact words. and they are unavailable walk in. I heard that they are not selling well there so they are being kept in inventory or warehouses,, or not prominently displayed. i saw a couple shops selling them though, not the prominent shops like UN, Den tri. rits in a red box.

You may be right about that, I'm not too familiar with Arctic International's lineup. They may have a .338 model, and I'm not surprised if they did.

But the point remains, the Star is a model of a purely AI gun, whereas Tanaka's is a model of the Remington M700 with the Arctic International Chassis System. The only thing shared is the chassis. The bolt, barrel and all related mechanisms are from two totally different companies.

Damn now it seems my AICS o ring is torn. Anybody knows if it is easy to find a replacement for that? and does hk shops stock that piece? Btw it seems very loose, or maybe i did not fit it in correctly. I thot u just had to pop it inside that hole in the bolt and its in...

Just picked up a AICS from A&A. The nozzle is not restricted but it does not have the PCS system. Shoots 500fps with a .2g on green @ about 15deg. A sticker on the boxes states "For export only". Im guessing this is the new run of post-ban Tanakas for markets other then Japan. Overall.. Im happy. We shoot about 500fps anyways.

Just wanted to provide a bit up an update for those who were staying away from the Tanakas after the 1j restriction. Hey.. if you can get one with a PCS then great... if not.. dont let that stop you. Also.. if you do happen to get a restriced one.. replacing the nozzle will fix the issue. I know of a guy in the states making them for $25 including shipping. PM me if you want his info. Other then that, you could buy the KA nozzle.

Ran into an issue with mine yesterday, as it was the first time I tried to field it.

I was unable to insert the magazine without a great deal of force (yes, the bolt was out of the gun) and once I had it seated (by a slap on the bottom of the mag), it would not release. The mag release lever had lost all tension and wouldn't move - it was rock solid - and it took me 5 minutes to get the mag out by pushing it down hard from the inside/top of the now-boltless receiver with my fingers while wiggling the mag back and forth.

Upon cursory inspection, the side of the mag is now pretty scratched up (it was mint before), and as near as I can tell the mag was being pinched after inserting it about 1.5" - it was almost like the walls of the magazine well were too tight? There may be some damage to the mag catch from having to force it open. I'm going to use some emery cloth or a buffing wheel on my dremel to smooth the inside of the magwell, but I'm unimpressed to say the least.

In the meantime, anyone else experience this? Since this gun is pretty rare in my parts, it's not like I can just find another mag to cheek and see if the problem is the magazine or the receiver....

I never had that problem but I have my A.I.C.S over a year now. Their something on airsoft canada armory that they have 1 mag but they say may require modifications to fit. Unless Mags had started to change im unaware of any problems like that.

I've also noticed my mag has been stiff to insert and release, although it never got so bad as to be completely unable to remove like your situation.

It's the same with all of my mags.

I converted my AICS to HPA the other day. The only mod required was to drill out the mags fill valve and retap it to fit the new quick disconnect fitting for the remote line. I used a standard paintball 45ci 3000 psi air tank, CP (brand name) adjustable regulator and a coiled remote line that I had kicking around from my old paintballing (yuck) days. Performance at 175 psi was quite remarkable. I was able to shoot 580fps with .3g BBs. Ofcourse I didnt use it on game day and with the adjustable regulator, I can bring down the FPS to legal limits. Consistancy was not really what I expected but I think that has to do with a number of issues that will be fixed once the upgrades come in and I fix the slop in the mag. I purchased the new run of AICS' that are not restricted but do not have the PCS. Not having the PCS is now not an issue. I am picking up a smaller 22ci 3000 psi tank, new inline regulator that screws onto the top of the tank regulator and a steel braided remote line. This setup should create a nice compact and lightweight system that shouldnt get in the way too much. When I get everything in I will post full details of the finished rifle.
