I have my addiction in check. But I do get relapses. Like last month. I went in for some Surefire batteries, and exited the store with 260$ worth of new gear.
I can't be around place like theses with my interac card or credit card. I must only go there with a limited amount of cash in hands. Because I always find something I need at a price too low to ignore. Hahaha. I can afford it, but I don't NEED it. Well, not yet anyway.

I've only been around for a year, I've probably dumped $4k easy into this sport. Do I regret it? No. Am I able to afford to? Sorta, I've sacrificed other priorities but nothing that couldn't wait or was urgent. Can I afford to continue like this? Hell no but I know that, I realize that and now that I'm a bit more educated, I've set goals and budgets. My problem is in check.

I used to feel the same way over Star Trek and sci-fi collectibles, though I broke myself of the habit ages ago. Had to have everything at one time but quit easily when most props were going for 150US or more for what is basically a lump of resin.
Now, when talking about the Bradley Nelson Phaser from the late '70s and early '80s...that's different....I couldn't afford them when he first made them and they are literally a work of art. Perfectly balanced, they could sit on the end of their grips without tipping over. I tried to duplicate his circuit on my own, he somehow got xenon strobe light bulbs to run at variable speeds off of six volts[four AA in the grip]. Whereas I only could from an AC source or just a single rate flash from a dry cell source, he had not only a step-up and inverter in his circuit but something to generate the pulses. AFAIK, he doesn't make them anymore and on the trader market they can go for 4-5 times their original value. Now I just settle for calendars and the occasional what they call "blueprints" ..actually sets of drawings of ships/props. Nerd City Last edited by Mudder; October 16th, 2009 at 19:15.. I have 7 different types of vests/chest rigs with enough pouches to cover them all twice. 1 of the plate carriers still has the tag on it. I acknowledge that I have an issue.

G36s....oh why? oh why?
G36's?
I have 9 fully functional and working G36's plus a suitcase full of mags.. last count 24 midcaps, 22 lowcaps, 8 highcaps At least two on deck...(as far as I remeber...not counting G36 parts in boxes etc.) All have thier own purpose Some are short, some are long, some are fat, and some are thin. Plus various other AEG's - TM Sig552, 2xCAS armalites, a TM MP5 A4, Kraken AK shell loaded with goodies (tightbore, high torque gears... blah blah blah ....390 to 395 fps and accurate) and a pistol...oh yeah a bolt action (needs work...new project) ...oh yeah and a silly little TSD MP7 ? All I know it is clear so I guess I like AEG's.

I also used to have that problem, with anything really. Pretty much a pack rat, keep everything, don't give/sell much. But I managed to change that.
I'm currently following the 30 day system. If there's something you want, you put it on a list, and you put the date next to it. You're only allowed to buy it after its been on your list after 30 days. If at any point you realize that you don't want it anymore, you cross it off your list. If you ever get the need to get it again, you put it on the list, starting fresh. This has helped lots with my spending and collecting. I've also gotten to the point that I don't want to keep anything that isn't being used. |

Hey Brian, I think I know where you're coming from. At it's peak, I had 6 rigs/vests (all real gear, no clones), 13 sets of BDUs (only 2 clones), with many of it being real Crye or issue. I think in gear alone I was probably sitting about $4-5K.
Once you start, you can't stop. At least it isn't an online-porn addictionb sucking your credit card dry every month. Wait a minute.....................................
