That completely depends on the model of the gun that the GBB is replicating.

Well, I was bored enough tonight to give it a shot.
Few hours, a bunch of plastic fumes, and about 8.5 million dead brain and lung cells later... finished. End result = Much improved grip, aesthetically not too bad. (next time I do this I gotta take more care around the logos). Will post up pics once I find a camera. Works well with my spiffy new slide though. Edit: now that I look theres a few spots that I could go over but since only I can really see em I'll leave em :P

Lol... woke up from weird dreams... anyways I looked around found the camera. Excuse my shotty photography skills, its 2 am.
I burnt my finger on the iron when I started, so it's not as perfectly even as I'd have liked... and I messed up the logos a weeee bit... definately learnt what not to do now... *wishes he had a backup grip to stipple perfectly*... but hey its 250% better than what I expected so no real complaints. Anyways enough of me talking... My spiffy new metal slide (1911 slide on 2011 frame wewt~) and troublesome (but now cooperative) metal chamber installed... heres the pics: Closeup... This is the better side, slightly more even cause I did this side second... looks really fugly close up... like really blemished... not so bad from afar... :P oh well. Function > Form. Didn't remove the grip frame, just took off the slide which made it awkward to hold with a 300 degree iron in one hand... area under the trigger was a b*tch to do...

That looks a lot nicer than the ones you'd posted in your original post. Good job!

Great job, Alex. I wish I had the balls to do something like that to one of my guns...

Good job.
I may have a spare grip for you, after neirbie makes me a custom all wood one. But I don't see why you'd need it, yours looks nice. |

Looks good, though I think grip tape probably does an easier job. TruGrip quotes that the tape should last quite a while for casual shooter. And if you do use it often it's really not that bad cost wise...

Alex...AWESOME!!! I like that style much better than the dimpled looks of others.
So litterally...you just take a hot soldering iron and "draw" each groove by hand? I don't have the guts to do that to mine... |

Alex, great job! It looks very well done, which is made all the more impressive by the fact that it's your first try at it. Congrats!

Thanks for the input guys... ^^ makes me feel better about my little mistakes. Yea got kinda scary just before I started when I was sitting there with an iron going "should i?, shouldn't i?...". Ended up practicing a bit on some old ABS parts I had sitting around til I got the pattern I wanted. That dotted stipple pattern is ok, but it looks like ass and doesn't grip as well.
Yea the grip is not as good as the grips you had the other day, but it's not too bad RM. I don't think I could shoot for extended periods of time with either though... its pretty harsh stuff on the soft supple skin of my palms . Basically yea, just me sitting there with the iron. The process is actually pretty forgiving. If you're careful on the edges (I got the edges right but the logos I slipped) the rest you can make a few small mistakes and they wont be visible. I think it'd be alot easier with a temp control iron, you'd be able to get it just right (I was cooling the tip in water now and then when it started to melt too quickly). Tips: If this has made anyone want to try it, practice abit on some abs (I've got some if you want to practice) before you start as it helps get technique down. And please work in a well ventilated area (very important). I used a 30W iron, but by the looks of it a 15-25W would be perfect.

Hey MILAN. Let me know how that works out for you... I could be interested in something like that....
And Tys, don't you have millions of spare parts of all shapes and sizes sitting around for you to test on...
