Wood Vs. Stain?

Ok, so for my next Ak project im looking for a wood kit. But im not sure what type of wood I need to buy, or the stain i want to put on it I just know what i want it to look like.

This wood kit is very similar to what I want, And yes I am looking for An Ak-74 kit.

http://www.uncompany.com/pageproduct...p?prodid=10992

Thanks

The wood that comes in the kit you linked to is perfect for a restaining, since it looks like plywood (same as soviet AK-74s), so a nice red restaining and clearcoat will give it a very authentic finish. Too bad you cant just buy the kit in its entirety due to the fact that it comes with a replica full steel receiver.

AK47 wood stocks were made from solid pieces (I believe), AK74 were from composite plywood.

I'll send you a PM in a bit of how I make my AK47 wood kits, which will soon be available from http://www.airsoftparts.ca for $80 very shortly.

Will you by any chance be making wood pistol grips as well? These would be a lot harder but it'd be nice to have a complete 47 kit.

Maybe eventually. If I ever do, buyers of these kits will get them at a very discounted rate.

The main problem for pistol grips is I didn't have the right tools to do them up. I may purchase the ones I'd need to make them up.

Also, (I know I'm taking this OT) How much bigger is the stock in your kit than the TM stock? I assume the TM stock is sized down from RS or something because it's so fucking small, it's destroying the wiring on my battery trying to get it in.

(sorry for the thread jack) They're the same size as the TM stocks, with a lot more battery room. (Can go up to a 10.8)

darkness-lightness is usually decided by how many coats you do (I've found), if you like the shade but like it lighter, just do less coats. Here's the first AK stock I ever made up, I used "Colonial American", and it has 3 coats of the stain and about two coats of satin varythane.
