My Ghillie Project
I have never made a ghillie suit before and this is the first one I have tried.
I realize that it is no good, at least compared to the pictures I have seen floating around the forum. However, I am having a blast making it and I am sure with a ton of more work I will at least turn out something that is usable. I could not find dye, so I will be cutting corners and using spray paint to color it. So far all I have done is the jacket. Once I put the finishing touches on the jacket I will be making a hood. I plan on using a baseball cap with the netting long at the back, about shoulder length. And of course the pants will be done the same way as the jacket. What a mess it made when I layed it out on my carpet! Any and all hints, suggestions, tips and criticism welcome. |

Nice but it needs to be worn down in mud, dust, rain and vegetation to really get that used type looking. But your off a very good start.

Regarding your hat plans, glue the netting to a peice of fabric which you sew to the back of your hat. That way it keeps the burlap (and the crap that falls off it) from falling onto your neck and down your shirt. Trust me, the fibers are freaking ITCHY!!!!

Ah very good idea. Thanks.
This is my hat so far: As you can see I need to finish the back, and there is some bare patches thoughout the top and brim. It looks alot better in person. But I can't complain, like I said I have not done this before so I don't really know what I am doing. But if I keep going with it i'm sure it will turn out just fine. |

To find Erik just follow the trail of burlap through the brush. Lol

LOL. This is true. I am WAY to lazy to clean this up right now.
I brought it outside and gave it a good shake. All the loose burlap fell out. How is it looking though? Compared to what I have seen around here it looks like I gave a kindergarden class a piece of net, some construction paper and a whole lot of school glue. But it can't be that bad right? But now I am out of burlap and jute so a run to Canadian Tire is necessary. Last edited by Erik2; April 10th, 2007 at 17:31.. |

I say it because it's true, burlap is always falling off mine, ripping off from getting caught in branches, etc.
It's not bad, be fine if your area of play is all sand and dead grass, but you'll light up like a glow in the dark bush if you play in woodland areas. Heck, even times when I get sunshine on me, I light up! These two were within seconds of each other: |

Since your head is down when the sun came through the canopy, you kind of just look like a pile of something. Its hard to say though since I know where you are.

True nuff. Explains why the many thousands of rounds fired at us (mostly me since I lasted the longest in the small area I was in............ Bruce was about 50ft away from me behind a bush in his ghillie) none hit me except BBs hitting trees and branches falling on and around me. Zoom in and you can see BBs flying around and by the trees. Took the flanking party to take me out, from behind, and I almost planted a few 0.43g BBs on him from my G19 when he got me (he thought it was great, one BB actually whizzed by his ear).
And, anyone wondering why my rifle is in the position it is, sideways, is because I had to reload and pulled it towards me to do so without exposing much of myself to the hailstorm around me. |
