Cross the straps!
Most knee pads are designed to cross the straps behind the knee.
If you don't then you have to cinch them up way too tight to keep them up. Crossing the straps causes the top of the pad to be bent over the top of the knee "cuping" the patella.. and holding the pad up. Also with the straps crossed behind the knee every time you bend the knee the pad is pulled back up and centred on the knee. I have had about 7 surgeries on my left knee, including an ACL replacment.. and I have no cartilage left in the joint.. a knee pad dropping is simply not an option.. unless you want to see a grown man cry. This works for me and I trust it.. If I went down on an unprotected knee.. I would not get up...

OR! If you have any patience, sew a pair of channels into your BDU.
I do this to all my cover-alls and to my dads as well. You sew a pair of channels, basically just folded material of the same colour to the pants you're sewing it too; in the positions that the straps are. What this does is give you the ability to leave the straps some what loose but at the same time tight enough to keep them from bouncing. And when you do kneel it doesn't drag the strap down into the back of your knee. As soon as I kept some kneepads for my gear set up, its what I'll be doing to to my BDU's.

+1 on the Blackhawk HellStorm neoprene kneepads. One of the best airsoft investments I've ever made. Highly recommended.

My hatch broke after the first use. The plastic piece that secures the strap on one end to have the velcro wrapped around behind your leg snapped in half.... just my luck... I will be getting the neoprene ones from blackhawk...
My question about these kneepads: are they durable? When worn on the outsude of the bdu? Will they withstand constant contact to the environment? (regular usage and abrasion) |
