I don't use magnification for aiming, but it's great for target aquisition. You know those moments... "that stump across that clearing kinda looks like a helmet..."
Red dots or equivalent are awesome though, you only need to line up two things, dot + target, vs three things, rear iron + front iron + target. I think that's why 99% of the real guys use them these days.
