Aye... only a few... the rest of us have to do it the right way lol, i remember i spent three days getting mine right, i initially soaked in in the hot and cold way for about 40 minutes (lots of time to kill in basic c=sometimes), moulded it and kept it on my head with my beloved CRE badge firly in place, and for the next three days it never left my head, i even hot and colded it in the shower on my head for extra moulding... i sat on a chair for three nights so i wouldnt disturb the mould in my sleep lol.

Though I will say that all the lads i know in the RE's wear our berets whatever we wear, even our in iraq with no shirt on, our pride is for the cap to be seen at all times.

we love our berrys we do... specially us who like to show off the best looking cap badge in the world lol.

A way we have been taught for kit is this,

Your webbing is your lifeline, in it goes your items to keep you alive (mags, grenades, flares, rope... all those lovelies)

The standard issue Bergen has two 'rocket packs' in those go your survivables (some spare clothing, food out of box, hexi's etc).

The rest fo the bergen is your luxury items so to speak, the things that you need generally but can live without, so if you have to ditch weight you quickly snaffle your two rocket packs with your essentials in and attach them to your webbing, leaving you able to move yet survive.

Other regiments and such have different ideas about what does what, but we as Engineers have a job and a half so we need be prepared to survive for sometime on our own.
