350fps is the indoor velocity limit. It set the minimum safe engagement distance at 10 feets to have 1j impact. 1 joule is the standard safe impact of a BB on the skin. Outdoor, we use 400fps for AEG and 450fps for snipers.
Paintball hurt more, because of the higher joules on impacts, but the projectile don't penetrate skin compared to BB. BBs don't hurt as much, but penetrate skin easely. BBs also tend to come in burst, wich paintballs don't.
Playing with airguns pellets is stupid. I've see a youth do that a few years ago using cheap Canadian Tire pistols. He got one of his nuckle broken.
