You don't NEED a longer barrel. Many people like to use a longer barrel on an AEG and use the supressor to conceal that. It allows you to use a longer barrel (more accurate) on a short gun like an M4 or MP5.
It's not required, and on a GBB, it would probably be more of an encumbrance than anything else IMO, as you wouldn't want to have the GBB wiht a supressor all the time, and without it, you'd have a long, ugly inner barrel sticking out.
I have a supressor on my MP5 with a stock barrel. I have no issues whatsoever.
