Just as an update here fellas, I did an exhaustive search for experience and facts regarding the VFC M82A1 and came up with mostly disappointed owners. An extensive thread, posted at Arnies (link below) chronicles several owners who lusted for, then received and reviewed their version 1's with very poor results.

Cliff notes:

3 version 1's reviewed.

- 2 came with broken valves for the gas system, parts were sent by VFC. VFC claimed to switch o-ring manufacturers after customer issues.
- all had hop-up problems leading to wild shots past 70 feet, no real solution, _apparently_ its a finicky/flawed design.
- 35lb trigger pull, one user noted bruised finger after playing with it first time.
- gas mechanism relys on a spring to remain closed, thus the pressure exerted on the spring caused it to eventually weaken and fail, creating a leaky tank. 2 spoke of eventual failure, 80 shots seemed to be the magic number. Reinforced replacements were sent by VFC, but the design was the same...
- mag had issues in 2 that forced the user to eject and replace the mag after each shot, 1 user found a fix.
- all agreed the build and materials was very solid and that the gun was great to look at (yay!)

version 1 consensus: expensive, if impressive paperweight

1 version 2 (mid-term) reviewed

- worked out of the box, no leaks after 350 approx shots on 134a.

consensus: 1 happy back-yard plinker.

General - It is worthwhile to note that the internal design was the same between both v1's and 2's. The 2 apparently incorporates the reinforced parts and 're-bracketed' the internals so as to make disassembly easier. The impression I take from this is that there is weak link in the design. I'll reconsider a purchase until more reviews come in of the mid-terms. I have to wonder however - would it not be possible to simply keep a little baggy of springs around? I wonder how hard it would be to replace them or put in an after-market gas tank. hmmph.
