Get the hardware needed for a 1 point sling. Hardward is easily available, simply take off the M4 stock, replace the little spacer thing between the stock tube and the body, then hook the sling onto either side of the attachment. Then you have a fast ass sling position, and zero strain on the barrel end of it. And, make sure the sling you choose is 1.5" wide, easier to use, and distrubutes the load on your shoulder better. For that type of sling, you want to run it over your shooting shoulder, and under your weak armpit. That way you can shoot normally as if there was no sling.
