I'm having trouble with my cheap
TCI PTT (click it !), which is made by Emerson I guess. I picked it up at PX Airsoft and it comes with the U-329 6-pins plug. It's hooked up to a Z Tactical Comtac II and a Toy Soldier AN/PRC-148.
The issue I'm having is that like many other cheap comm setups, it works fine for some time and then just goes south for an unknown reason.
I did run some tests at home and it looks like that when the cable of the PTT (headset side) is bent in some fashion, my other radio (Alan 456r) picks up the signal when I'm talking through the headset's mic. The cable radio side needs also to be bent in some way for the radio to emit when I press the PTT button. And in any ways, I don't receive any sound in the Comtac !
I guess the culprit here is the poor soldering job typically found in ACM products. You can judge from those pictures.
I opened up also the headset and the radio, and everything looks soldered and holding fine.
Basically, my questions are :
1) Will resoldering everything fix the problem ?
2) Is it possible to take out the U-329 pins individually so I can perform a good and solid solder joint ? I don't want to risk melting the blue collar holding said pins.
3) Speaking of melting, how do I get rid of that stupidly applied resin in the PTT body so I can check the soldering points on the circuit board ?
4) Can anyone redirect me to a U-329 wiring scheme or guide ?
5) Should I just throw it all away and get a real headset and PTT ? I already have a real TCI PTT that I picked up for a good price and so far it works well for emitting surprisingly (since it's hooked to a replica headset). Unfortunately, I can't hear anything in the headset again.
