Can't go wrong with the old US woodlands; their cheap, readily available, incredibly comfortable, they work fairly well, and their durable. Not to mention, pretty much every piece of gear can be found with this pattern like heavier jackets, rain gear, pouches, etc.

Another good choice is the old OD's, where I live their even cheaper than the woodlands. Not as many people wear all OD as people wearing woodlands; so if you're looking to be a little different but still be budget concious, you really can't go wrong with OD's.

If you're looking for more a tanside look, the DCU's are essentially the exact same as the woodlands, and the British desert dpm is great and so is the desert German flecktarn.

As for gear, if you're looking to give your OD plate carrier a more dirtier look, pick up a can of the tan camo krylon paint (Canadian Tire and Kent have this) and lightly dust over your carrier. It doesn't paint it, just gives it a nice dusty look.
