Just do it if you want to. You'll be the one to decide if it's workable or not...and probably quickly so.
In a practical sense though at most games there's really no need to. Field limits are usually set and the extra 50fps is immaterial in most every scenario. To that end...just make sure your M4 is working well and work within those parameters....or just stick with your L96 and work within those. Most guys with a bolt gun team up with a spotter who also does the closer range security stuff.
If having two rifles with a potential 50fps difference really was a huge advantage game in and out then you'd have a thread full of guys saying, "Yeah, I do it all the time" vs. the opposite. That should clue you in right there.
