I'd recommend that you skip a "scope" (in the traditional sense) altogether and stick with a RDS (aimpoint or EOtech) and add a 3x or 4x separate magnifier to your M4.
3x is usually more than enough for getting a closer look at things....and getting mounts that you can easily take off (either QD lever, twist, flip to the side, or just a bigger knob to tighten/loosen, etc...) makes it really quick and simple to take the magnifier off when you don't need it for CQB.
If you want more than 3 or 4 power...then you can get 8 or 10x mini binoculars. They'll tend to be affordable and have some decent glass in them.
....NS Star is low quality junk...in that I would feel like I was pissing away $150 on it vs. spending a bit more for something of better quality. To each their own...and their own budgets though.
