I haven't played paintball since the late '80s, but I sometimes have to do this stance. You see, some guns aren't paintball goggle friendly and aiming with the iron sights can be cumbersome. And if I need to acquire a target quickly, sometimes it's just easier to look down the side of the barrel and not the sights. Also, it's a good way to check the hop-up before a game.
Hopefully, with this explanation, I won't be called a poncing paintball poser.
