Actually it will work!

I figured it out,

the piece fits perfectly but as you said the original hi capa grip is too wide so the release cannot catch the groove on the mag.

I figure all I need to do is either find a little plastic piece and glue it on or take epoxy puddy and make an extension to the metal.
