Without Paintball approved goggles, most official fields won't even let you play. Personally, I recommend Bitter End Mesh Goggles. As for lower facial protection, it's at your discretion. I didn't wear any when I first started playing, but taking a round to the lip and having it swell up and making you look like Angelina Jolie changes a man, if you get my drift.

Really, most people just wear vests because they look cool. The reality is that they're heavy, bulky, and hot. Look at what you'll be carrying, and choose a rig based on that. If you're gonna be out there with multiple spare batteries, a couple of BB loaders, a First-Aid kit, half a dozen mags, and a canteen, then yeah, maybe you'll want a vest. On the other hand, if you're just carrying one spare high-cap mag and a camel-back, then don't even bother.

Depends on where you are, and what you're doing. I've found that OD actually works really well in rocky areas, whereas CADPAT TW is bar-none the best for any green areas. MARPAT makes you invisible in woodland areas where there's more dirt, mud, and tree trunks than grass and foliage. Multicam works well in either, but not as good as what each was designed for. I've never found ACU to blend in with much, and black, if over-used, doesn't do much either, though it's not bad for breaking up your patterns if you wear only a bit here and there.

Boots. Scratch that; good boots. And light clothes rather than heavy canvas, otherwise you'll overheat and it'll harder to move. Get a nice pair of gloves too to keep a grip on your gun. Radios with headsets are a good investment as well if others are using them. Motorolas, Cobras, etc.

Focus on outdoor more; in CQB, it really won't matter what kind of camouflage you're wearing if the enemy is ten feet away. Though it still depends on where you are. Black is alright, since it's usually darker in CQB arenas. In the long run, you'd really want to have separate kit for each though depending on what you're using.
