Wow. Total gimmick, but awesome none the less.

Nice toy... but I wouldn't pay that much.

If one wants (and has enough money to do so) a "command system", the ACM Land Warrior system (or whatever they call it, advertised ~500$USD) would be more interesting with the helmet mounted display and an actual map, but it would still be some hardcore overkill. Maybe at sub 200$... maybe. But no way I would put out that much for what it is.

I'm sure something could be done quite easily on a smartphone platform like Android that would be enough for airsoft use. It's got the GPS, the wireless communication and even a camera, as well as a digital compass...

Blackthorne December 10th, 2009 07:47

Agreed. Android would be a better platform, assuming these aren't running that. Layer on a nice Java GUI and you'd have real boner material.

These COULD be interesting in a game, where you stash one and a teaam uses the other to find an objective..etc..etc

a bit pricey to 'stash' somewhere. although issuing a team one would be interesting, how do you determine you FoF? 2 way gps system like the Rino's would make it easier to try and track a specific (possibly moving) objective/target.

I dont know, these could open up some interesting possibilities for scenarios. Can think of alot of uses in those terminator games last summer.

EagleDriver December 10th, 2009 09:20

This, in addition to the replica Land Warrior, seem to be the start of some nice high-tech toys for the sport of airsoft.

Kos-Mos December 10th, 2009 11:15

Oh boy.

For that price, you can get a Asus EEEPC 701 for dirt cheap on ebay, and add a touch screen interface, a GPS and 3G internet card...

Now that is one hell of a GPS/locating device...

Looks like an cheap GPS that had some rough night with a cheap radio and her friend LCD....

Any cellphone with a GPS device would be more useful... they already let you post your location on Facebook with it... making a java app that could report to a specific range of devices would be very easy... better have a damn good data plan though...

call of duty modern warfare 2 heartbeat sensor? ;)

Drake December 10th, 2009 19:39

The gadgety Gameboy-ish casing makes it look cheap. For the price they could have done something a bit more professional/robust.

Cool beans. But would rather have a Predator Drone flying over the airsoft field before I pack on any more gear on myself.

Amos December 14th, 2009 19:03

Ahaha there's no way the "tracking" images shown in the video are what's shown on the screen, that's way to fluid and smooth to come from one of these things.

Conker December 14th, 2009 19:23

Yeah, looks cool. But not worth the money IMHO.

And what Amos said^^

The Acer December 14th, 2009 21:57

I would consider it if it was more like $100, it would be handy for finding positions of teammates and coordinating attacks, adds more strategy,
I think its funny how the guys are look at the gps more than they are looking around, Probably best be used when not in action but rather a planning/coordinating tool
