Choice of SCARs
 

So, hey... I see the consensus is that VFC make about the best AEG SCAR-L, and Dboys should be avoided.... What abut in-between? I've seen SCAR-Ls for sale in the classifieds by Echo-1 and G&G, as well. I have a G&G M4 (Cansoft) and have been quite happy with its stock performance. Is their SCAR (full metal) of decent quality?

Huh. These Austrian fellows don't like the VFC much, but like the Dboys a lot...

I heard the Star and G&G ones were pretty nice. Star has the quick change spring.

The Echo-1 will most likely be a re-brand of the D-boys, But with slightly better QC

dont got Dboys or CA, they are the hardest to disassemble/reassemble.

VFC and G&G on the other hand is much easier(Internals are slightly better on the VFC). It doesn't sound like it's much of a problem but you will see what I mean when you actually start trying to reassemble the gun after working with the mechbox.

in the Dboys and CA, you have to ply apart both sides of the lower(plastic) receiver to fit down the ambi selector gears. If you see some reviews on this, they always HATE how this is done. Not only is it outrageously hard(without misaligning the selector gears), you also run the risk of breaking the receiver.

Now between the VFC and G&G, their fairly close quality wise. VFC has alot more QD features. This includes the bolt, lower receiver, stock, and everything else pretty much. but in the end, you choose haha.

I've worked on many D-BOYS & CA SCARs, and you really have to screw it up pretty bad to misalign the selector gears - and the amount of pressure required to break the receiver is far more than I've ever been able to exert.

About 8 of these guns worked on so far; with 0 misaligned selector gears, and 0 broken receivers.

Is it easy to get out? After the 2nd one - it was pretty easy. Noting a knife and a flat-head screwdriver can't handle.

In terms of which I'd prefer? Well, DBOYS/CA parts are pretty much interchangeable, especially the stock assembly - which is what's most likely to break on any SCAR I've seen thus far - regardless of manufacturer. And DBOYS is the only replacement stock I've seen on the market yet - aside from STAR (which is expensive as hell).

Like Skladfin says though, it really is your choice.

Tons of the VFC parts up at UN Co WGC and other overseas spots. Looks like you could almost build one from parts (lots of CA parts listed in those spots too).

VFC is also reachable by email and the real odd nuts and bolts parts can be sent direct. They sent me the spring and screws for a PBS-4 suppressor.

This should probably be in the doc's corner, but all of you are pretty experienced in dealing with Scars. So I'm a noob when it comes to internals and taking apart guns. I was switching the shorter inner barrel for the standard length on my VFC Scar and I wasn't paying attention to the placement of the hop up assembly. This might be a stupid question, but are the screws on either side of the hop up supposed contact the two plastic flaps on either side or are they screwed in behind the assembly? I was wondering because the fps is around 240-260, so I'm not sure if it’s an air seal issue.

nope, they should be loose and not contacting the hop up unit at all.

right now you tightened it so that the hop up unit spring can't push it far into the gearbox to make a good airseal.

it's just there to keep the hop up unit from falling out. loosening it should solve your airseal problem(if that's the only one)
