Input TM 5.1 or 4.3 hicap what you choose and why

hi

As I'm kind of new to airsoft and my knowledge is a tad limited in the area. I'm looking a either a TM 5.1 or 4.3 hicap.

So my question is what would you choose and why, new or used?

I have read reviews and other info, I would like to hear your options either for or against.

Then the final question would be what upgrades would you do external make full metal then internal upgrades

To start have around $800 play with

Oh is there a CAPS on the west cost?

thanks for your input

I like the 4.3, I think it looks sleeker, and the slide is shorter, therefore lighter and faster cycling, and the frame is slightly longer and heavier, reducing the felt recoil making double taps more accurate.

For a CAPS gun, there's actually a full 4.3 CAPS oriented build on the classifieds right now for a very good price, but for CAPS you should get the basics like a tightbore and a magwell to start, then move on to compensators and slides from there.

Well supposedly the 5.1 has more upgrades available for it however I really like the feel of the 4.3 myself (I don't own one however I've handled my teammates new 4.3).

Also I don't think so although I'd like to see one getting going on the West Coast. You could probably start a CAPS league if you really wanted however being new and inexperienced usually leads to bad things happening. Getting some games under your belt is the first priority, secondly once you get known ask if you can start to co-host games (or at least shadow game admins), finally try starting a CAPS league with one of the people you've co-hosted with/shadowed and once you get confident enough you can probably start hosting them on your own CAPS games.

+1 for talkiing to ILLusion, He's basically the Guru of all things hi-capa.

Personally, I own a TM 4.3, and i love it. I have tried the 5.1, but it felt a little weird to me, not sure why.

The "5.1 vs 4.3" question gets asked a lot. Here's one of the threads with answers for this exact question:

Regarding which upgrades to do, that's totally dependent on which performance and aesthetic characteristics you are after, and how you rank them in terms of importance.

Performance characteristics include items such as:
  • Durability (reliability)
  • Accuracy
  • Velocity
  • Gas consumption
  • Cycling speed
  • Shot-to-shot consistency (velocity and groupings)
  • Reloading speed
  • etc.

As for your question about CAPS, no, there is no west coast chapter at this time.

Presently, there is only one functioning CAPS chapter, located in Toronto.
There are talks at this time to get another chapter started up in Montreal.

I know there are practical shooting groups in the Vancouver area and other west coast cities, but they are not under the CAPS umbrella. Some of these groups have been in operation for years, and even run by IPSC black badge holders, but these groups are not active on ASC. You will need to do your own research to try and find these groups (even I can't remember the names to point you to.)
