KWA Glock 19, Trigger/Hammer problems

So, I've had a KWA glock for a number of years now. recently it started to display some problems and finally has given up the ghost of life.

At first, it seemed the slide was not returning correctly. Upon pulling the trigger the slide would go back, before getting stuck about just before it pushes the bb into the chamber.

I thought this might be the recoil spring, so i purchased a new guarder one which fixed the problem. only to create another one !

Insert loaded mag (with green gas) when i pull the trigger the slide racks as usual. the round goes firing off into the distance, but the trigger isnt returning to the ready position. ie, cock gun, pull trigger, round goes flying off, slide goes back and forth. Trigger stays locked back. Pulling the slide back again *frees* the trigger.

From looking at the hammer assembly, it appears undamaged. Well lubed, but not too much lube.

I've always run the gun on green gas without any problems, it does this with all the mags ( of which i have 4) I've warmed the mag to room temp and still the same result.

Any help is appreciated !

Cheers
Ben

When the round is fired, is the hammer locked back or is it up?

Jam1984 May 6th, 2009 15:07

up, as i pull the slide back i can feel the slight resistance of it being up.

I have the same problem. Except mine is a KSC G19. My problem doesn't occur after every shot though. I suspected that is has been the gas valves. I haven't tested though but I think its only 2 of the 3 mags that cause this problem. I believe some of my mags might have minor leaks. Thats just in my opinion. When i get home, i will try it out.

After the problem seemed to worsen, i decided to look into it. I suspect that hammer isn't actually pushed back into the firing position thus the hammer is in the "up" position, as noted by Jam1984. Any ideas?

When you take the mag out, do you feel more resistance than usual?

MikeMcNair August 3rd, 2009 13:22

not sure about the OP, but i can't say that i do. would that indicate something i should look for?

sushi_boy604 August 3rd, 2009 14:07

The reason why i ask is because i am curious on where your hammer position is. The reason why i get resistance is because my hammer does not push all the way back after the shot was taken. Thus my trigger doesn't return, makes sense right? If you have the same problem, we need to figure out why our hammer doesn't fully cock after each shot.

MikeMcNair August 3rd, 2009 14:12

makes perfect sense. so what could be stopping the hammer from fully going back? increased tension in the spring? not enough blowback?

i am game to brainstorm.

sushi_boy604 August 3rd, 2009 18:32

Originally, i thought it was not enough blowback. It might be. Did you happen to upgrade your rocket valve? I think i might have seen problems after i installed a new one.

stock rocket valve. but i have tried different hammer springs with no luck (guarder and stock.)

in fact, if i put my "good slide" on it (with the AS rocket valve) and my mag with the high flow valve in it, same issue. so it is clearly in the body of the gun.

There's a good chance that you've got wear in the sear - do you find that your trigger pull has more slop to take-up before engaging compared to when it was new/functioning at optimum performance?

Hey steve. I kind of do feel it. The only parts that look worn down to me are part of #94, #78, and maybe #87 and #92. Which of those parts do you think is worn down? Thanks for the reply.

It'll be #87 - though wear on the interfacing surfaces of the hammer itself, #94, could also be a culprit.

When you pull the takedown levers to pull the slide off, is the back end of the slide colliding with the hammer rather than gliding off?
I've see a lot of well-worn Gs, especially select fire models, that have to have a small tool inserted to hold down the hammer while removing the slide, as it's worn and sticks up in this manner.

Check that out - but, very likely the sear part #87.
Replacing that will likely bring things right back to spec, by the sound of your symptoms (but I'd like to hear your take on the hammer, as well...)
