German HBT uniform

Hey I've been looking for a repro/close alternative to the Reed Green Hot battle tunic. I know SS officers had these, but was this option just available to c.o.'s? was it just for the SS or the Werhrmacht? The DAK hat hot climate attire, Im looking for the Reed Green version or one similar that can be converted. I havent had much luck, and all original stuff is $300 on average for just one piece of the tunic.
thanks for the help.

I've been thinking about picking up one of these, they're still pricey but the quality looks to be alright. e-bay has some cheap sets for around 120 shipped but they come with no insignia or shoulderboards.

BootYourFace March 1st, 2009 23:54

Very nice link! interested officer tunics

Drunk_Albertan March 1st, 2009 23:57

no, haven't ordered anything yet but was thinking of that tunic and an M43 hat, they seem to be pretty nicely done, and good prices too.

Here's another site I have not ordered from yet but prices are good. From Hong Kong I believe. They also have an e-bay store as well.

There is a version of the M36 Officers up on ebay now. I might end up getting a set if I cannot stand the WOOL in all of the +40 heat. but we shall see.

80 USD plus shipping is not bad.

That's perfect! I like the gabardine tunics but they cost $$$ and I wouldn't want to field it. Just buy the shoulder tabs and collar tabs from military tour and find a nice cap.

Joel, Spearhead (ebay) is great for tunics. I don't know if your doing SS or Wehrmacht but they come with the shoulder/collar tabs and eagle if you buy WH.

I have not found any Visor Caps that are in the HBT material, and having the Wool or Gabardine might look a bit ‘tacky’. So your best bet is getting maybe, an HBT Overseas cap, or the HBT M43 Field cap.

Don’t think that you HAVE to get the officer version of the cap to make it match your outfit. Since you are probably going as a junior Field Officer (Like myself) You would want to blend in with your company. During WW2 Officers were high up on the sniper hit list.

On the note of ‘blending in.’ Another thing you might want to consider as well, if you can find them, is getting some shoulder board covers for your Rank. The big chunks of white make you stand out. Since I have not found any that are commercially available you could probably just make some using a scrap of WOOL, or HBT material that is close to your outfit in shade.

True, I will probably just use a helmet. I don't know what to do Wehrmacht or SS- I don't like the how officer WH collar tabs stick out (sooo thick)

if you are looking for repros then check out atthefront.com. I got some of my American uniform there. They even have some original stuff that they will sell to you. When I've shown other reenactors they cant see the difference between mine and the original stuff. Their German uniforms are great as well.

by the way, they are in U.S. and will ship just about anything to Canada except knives.

Yeah thanks, Im actually going to be $lowly piecing together a "fieldable" (meaning something I can really beat on) kit for a fair price. looking for combat ready gear thats relatively low maintenance.
As for load out and Kit I'd prefer an SS theme to that of your 2nd SS.
Just HBT instead of wool. and simple helmet and Oak A cover.
Belt an Y straps with prolly G43 pouches. I'd love to build one in the future!

thanks for the help amigos, It is much appreciated!
I plan to see you on the field in ontario this summer!

Theres a lot of HBT Uniforms on the net you just need to spend a little time to search for, And yes Some good deals can be found on E-Bay. The HBT was for all ranks not just the Officers , and it was made for the same reason your looking for it, the wool is to hot for Hot weather. The regular Army and the SS used the same Basic uniforms early on :the The SS began running Camo Patterns >> though Laughed at in the early stages, the Camo proved itself successful. The Camo smocks are awesome in the bush and there are enough patterns between smocks and camo tunics to find one that will work for you Doc
