Wrong Sound?

Has anyone ever had a complaint that the BB's fired from your AEG doesn't sound right as it's whizzing past someone's head? :D

Seems a few people at the last game I was at complained because the "whizzing" noise of the BB's from my AEG didn't sound like everyone else's. http://www.airsoftcanada.com/images/...s/rolleyes.gif

I was running a simple KWA M4A1 with an 11.1V Lipo. The only things done to the M4 were a modify gear set to replace the stock gear set because it blew due to the lipo, a new madbull piston due to the same reason, and then it was reshimmed. This thing doesn't even have a tightbore barrel. Above all that I was running Excel .25g BB's....

I guess they figure that since my "noise" was different that I must be running 500fps or more... my Well L96 was hitting at 450fps....

This gun sounds like a keeper if it can scare players just by the whizzing sound! The only thing I can think of is the lipo pumping out 30 bbs a second compared to the other guns on why the sound would be different.

Generally I don't throw my AEG at the target so I've never had complaints about the sound of my AEG whizzing past someone's head..... :D

On a more serious note. The speed of a bb does have an affect on the sound it makes as it passes by. However, the shape or inconsistent shape of a bb and it's surface has a greater affect on the sound. Hop-up would also affect the sound.

They all sound simian, 3/4 of AEGs are using what's essentially the same mechbox.

Noise doesn't equal power. This is like ricers putting noisy mufflers and cold air intakes on their otherwise stock-ish cars. Install a metal piston head and a KFH/KX3 if you want noisier, but it'll be at the expense of your mechbox (for the piston head), and you're still going to get stock performance.

My Kraken has a noticeable difference in rate of fire (slower) and "thump" compared to all my other AEG's and that makes me happier, feels more like an AK, but the only thing I think to replicate it better would be the TM electric blowback AK.

There were other guys at the game running AEG's with FPS same as mine....

I figured it was the combination of the of the .25g BB's and the super high ROF from the lipo. That's the only reason I can think that my sound would be different than everyone else. lol

The gun was chrono'd at 380fps give or take say 10 variation over the course of a mag and this was with .20's.

I know that 9mm rounds from from something such as a glock 17 sound allot different compared to an full auto MP5 firing the same 9mm round.

Can you be a little more specific regarding which "Sound" they were complaining about? There's the sound of the bb as it flies by and disturbs the air. There's the sound at the muzzle as the BB exits. The sound of the motor/mechbox/piston.

What most people hear on the field is a combination of the muzzle sound and the mechbox/motor. Hellhound has an Aug nicknamed the "Popcorn maker" due to the unique sound signature it has from the silencer it has.

The sound of the BB whizzing past their heads was all I was told! :D

Just because the BB's fired from my gun sounds like a swarm of pissed off hornets on crack flying Cobra attack helicopters doesn't mean I'm running UBER fps lol!

maybe its just that its more bb's in the air due to your higher rof, so more air disturbance

LyquidFyre October 2nd, 2008 16:19

That's probably it. Before the sound of the first bb can dissipate, the second, third etc etc zip's by.

Like I stated before that is the only thing I could think of coupled maybe with the .25's while 90% of everyone else was using .20s! I due know that the one guy running .12's had a which whizzing noise. Technically a .12 fired from a Kraken would put that round allot faster that if it was firing a .2!

I came upon a guy wielding a Kraken with a 3000 round drum mag loaded with "Supersonic" .12's (stated this right on the bottle of BB's)! Now if my math is correct....

My KWA M4A1 was Chronied at 380fps with .20's so with .25's I was running about 340fps. The Kraken is about 370fps with .20's which would mean with .12's he was shooting at 477fps! Granted the Joules are way different but....

exactly! The average stock TM M4 running an 8.4v battery fires what, 13-15 rounds a second compared to the KWA M4 with an 11.1v Lipo firing at 30-35 rounds a second? Now I swap out the spring for something which less oomph and now that should bump my ROF up to around 40?

pusangani October 2nd, 2008 16:37

and thus the mystery of the weird whizzing weapon was solved...

Which Im not allowed to use on that field until I get it re-chrono'd.... http://www.airsoftcanada.com/images/...s/rolleyes.gif

Why would one bother with .12's on the field? If it's outdoors, .12's would bounce off leaves and you wouldn't even feel them hit you.

I was shooting about 380ish with my M4 on .2's at BWII but used .25's all day long and they seemed to be just enough to cut through. .28's would have been better but I didn't feel like compromising on FPS too much.

pusangani October 2nd, 2008 18:23

yep for outdoor, you won't get the penetration you need with anything less than .25's ;)
