Newbie/Gun Problems
Alright...well, i'm a newbie so far in Airsoft, and i must say, so far i haven't had such a great experience mainly due to technical problems...
Not wishing to buy an expensive airsoft and get a feel of the sport to begin with, i got myself a Panther Arms M4, the clear plastic one that comes with the Colt pistol, all of course spring weaponry. Downside, i had to bring back the rifle twice due to internal parts breaking by simply cocking the gun after a few minutes of gameplay....i've came to the logical(In my mind anyways) conclusion that plastic guns weren't much reliable... My question would be as follow: I'm a newbie, and wouldn't want to spend 500$ on a gun without having a real feel of the hobby, or what a "Real" airsoft feels like rather than the cheap Walmart package deal...Is there demonstrations or a place you can get an idea of what it's like in the Montreal area. 2) Is there any retailers for decent and reliable guns with perhaps after-sales service in case of technical problems, or is it that if i by a 500$ gun and that it breaks, that i'll be stuck with it. 3) Lastly, what could be considered an ideal price range/gun type for beginners. I'd be more than willing to try it out and even spend money in the hobby, but so far, i haven't been quite satisfied with what i have seen/experience..so please save me.... -Phil |
Cost is opinionated really.
Want a cheap AEG? I suggest investing in a kraken ak47. Its cheap, fairly reliable and with a small investment towards preventative maintenance, the kraken becomes a formidable gun. Thats if you like the AK look, if not its less than 200 so you can see where my argument is going there. I dont believe retailers provide an after sales service unless otherwise stated, and going off the top of my head, unless shes dead outa box I think your pretty much on your own to find a gun doc. However there are a fair amount of gun doctors and aeg smiths in Canada. There is a listing of them somewhere on this website as well. If I may make a suggestion as well. Take everything you remeber about your clear spring guns and attempt to supress the thought as best you can. Get medication to help with it if possible. What you were previously using was known as a soft air gun or clearsoft. You are now tainted with a dirtiness that not even a pure hot water shower, 2 cans of commet and a green scrubby can get clean. Soft air would explain your dissatisfaction, a good dose of airsoft mayb cure you. However I hope its not to late, as to much soft air can be fatal. |
you could try the 'presidents choice' airsoft that's coming out now, jing gong. TM clones. guns closer to the $300 mark. as for after purchase service no one i know offers a warranty. however most problems on a stock gun can be repaired for under $50.. probably just a shim job maybe bushings or a broken tappet plate.. i dunno. my p90 has been reliable.
there are gun doctors around who can be talked into fixing your guns AND there is a wealth of knowlage right here on ASC. so basicly a little research and you can fix your gun yourself. and people more then willing to help you over the net. i don't know if these guys still are updating but i learn alot from mechbox.com. enough for me to upgrade my gun with no previous experience and like i said, it has been reliable. if you really want a feel for airsoft see if you can rent someones spare, many guys have extra guns just for new guys. if you can get age verified you can buy a used one off someone in the forums and probably find a good deal. |
the cheapest most reliable gun is the clear pistol grip shotty from walmart... shoots hard and pretty accurate. i think it's 35 bucks or something. your next cheap reliable gun is the kraken ak47.
not so reliable or cheap guns include the mp7 or the mp5 from buyairsoft.ca. but like everyone here is thinking... invest in a good gun like $300-$350 JG for your first "real" gun. you can always sell it with minimal loss if you decide you dont like the sport after all. |
Get age verified and checkout the buy and sell.

Clearsoft.. .. yucky..
as was already stated.. if you have the opportunity.. hold the gun your thinking of getting.. see if you like the feel first.. as you will be holding it for an aweful long time lol that being said.. you cant buy anything from any sort of reputable retailer unless you are age verified.. so work on that first :D |
1) Get age verified
2) Check out BUY/SELL section 3) ??? 4) Happy |
3) Profit!

If you want to try a really good gun and you're 18, you should ask Ronan if you could fire his PTW... It's godly! I live in the West Island and it only took me about an hour to get to his house, but damn was it worth it. Pretty friendly guy too.
Hmm, if you want to get verified, bruce is near Du College metro. Good luck! |
just go to a game around your house check the games section under Québec... im sure they would tell you all about their guns and what not...

you guys dont have brands like tsd, double eagle, and cyma?
i think my tsd shotgun is better than those walmart ones my brother has a steyr aug springer made by i think jia li sheng. its quite well made and we chronied it at 365 fps |
None of those brands as far as I know makes guns in clear plastic. Therefore I think there are no storefront retailers stocking any of those brands, unless they do manufacture guns in clear plastic. All of those springers would be subject to the same laws that govern aegs and gbbs.... replicas..... that's why they are not found in stores for general sales; that is illegal in Canada. search the canadian tire website for airsoft and you will see the selection of "clearsoft" available here.
