Battery Discharger

I am not a battery smart kind of guy and untill recently i would just charge my batteries before a game and that was that.
i reccently found out you should discharge a battery before you charge it againe.
My Question is this
i have a BASIC charger
it was bought from the ASC store when it had open'd, when the charger is not plugged in to the wall but the battery is plugged into the charger the Fan inside of the charger is powerd by the remaning battery power and works, i can feel fan blowing air out of the unit. could this be done to discharge the battery or is it bad for the battery??

Thanks

Do you have Ni-Cd batteries?

If not, they forget about discharging.

Otherwise, get some 1A automotive lamps and wire 4 in parallel. It is a good discharger.

If it is a NiHM battery then you dont have to worry about discharging it. Ni-cads would have to be discharged. It should say on your battery what it is.
