Just wondering, whats the difference between Crye Multicam, Propper Multicam and TruSpec Multicam?

My understanding is they are all made from crye multicam material but have different cuts. Am i correct?

Propper and Truspec are licensed to use the Multicam pattern. Differences are in the cut of the uniforms and the fabric used. I haven't seen the Truspec uniform first-hand but the Propper version uses a NYCO fabric IIRC.

Does it look like real multicam?

The pattern is the same since it's licensed so it looks like Crye. Only the cut and material will differ.

I have several bits of Multicam from a few sources..

Truspec-- is to my understanding using Crye produced fabric.. its 50-50 cotton nylon.. ripstop.. I have a pair of these.. and they are very nice.

Also have some Seals Action Gear Muticam stuff-- also Crye produced fabric..

Propper is to my understanding licensing the pattern and producing ( or having produced) their own fabric.. their standard BDU fabric is stiffer than what Crye produces.. but the pattern is the same.

What has to be understood is the Crye is the owner of the Pattern.. that is what is authentic..

Several other companies have licensed that pattern and are producing various things in the Crye Muticam pattern.. if it is tagged Crye Multicam.. it is "real" muticam even if the fabric is not from Crye.

Clearly a number of "clones" of the Crye pattern have been made... they differ from Crye in hue and detail.. but none the less they are Multicam.. as much as, say, Parklands Marpat is "real" marpat.. Which is to say... on its own it looks like it.. but side to side.. it's differences are apparent.

I have a pair of tru-spec, propper and repro

now, i have seen and felt real crye fabric upclose and i can honestly say that tru-spec uses genuine crye nycro ripstop

propper bdu's have a different shade, they are darker and the material is 65/35 and is heavier than tru-spec's. in addition, it actually carries a "authentic multicam VS" triangular tag as oppose to "authentic multicam" triangular tag to reflect on licensing.

this makes sense since tru-spec bdu's are roughly $20 more than propper per piece to compensate material costs.

All this info is just to my understanding and experience dont flame me if im wrong!

So is it worth it to get Propper? Or will i be 'dissapointed' if i want 'real multicam'??

What do you mean "worth it"?

As with any gear buy the best you can afford..

Propper makes a good BDU... good stitching.. bartacks where needed.. human ft.. made to serve and to last.

Tru-Spec particularly the TDU cut is very good.. and fits well.. I waffled between the Propper stuff and the Tru-Spec.. in the end I got Tru-Spec because I liked the fit better... and the fabric is lighter weight.. good for Summer.

You may perfer the Propper fit... Both are well made a very serviceable BDUs

both companies make nice sets and since they are either genuine or licensed by crye, you know the quality control is there.

i guess its a matter of perference, i find tru-spec more comfortable to wear since its lighter and softer out of package.

with propper, the fabric is heavier and harder at first but im sure it'll losen up after a couple skirmishes or washes.
the darker shade on propper can be thought of as fade compensation over time i guess.

I have only tried my pair of propper once for like 2 minutes so I have not washed them or wore them in. infact they still got tags on them hehe..

but if you want, i can take pictures of both bdu sets and you can compare the colour yourself. my tru-spec pants is still brand new and havent been washed it'll be a nice comparison new out of box.

Go with the uniform that you feel will suit your needs best. Honestly, I think you're thinking too much over what's "real" Multicam. If they're authorized by Crye to use the pattern then they're GOOD TO GO. Do you really think your opponent cares that your Multicam is a shade darker or lighter? Do you you really want him to get close enough to tell?

yes as i said, its all perference. but i can see that its hard to pick a set for yourself if you cant try them at the time of purchase.

as for the pics, you'll have to wait for me to get back home later tonight since im at work

i wonder if any of the crye clones is wrong in JUST the right way to look like the modified pattern grom uses :)
