MP5 Conversion, From SD to Flashlight

A friend of mine has a MP5 SD5 and wants to use the normal MP5 handguard with the built-in flashlight. What parts would one need to switch a CA MP5 SD into a normal MP5 with the integrated flashlight? It's a fullstock version so battery storage will not be an issue when converting the front ends. Obviously a foregrip will be needed, but I am unsure as far as cocking tubes and whatnot. Any guidence will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

you'll need brand new frontend/cocking tube since they are different between the SD and the lighted. I am sure you can find someone with a CA mp5 would would kill to go SD and trade with you.

Entire front end, cocking tube, front sight, gas block, the works. Basically everything from the magwell forward. I bought an entire front end to change my A5 into an SD a couple year ago, nothing except cocking handle, spring, and spring guide are interchangable.

Wow... that really does suck. He won't trade the parts because he wants to be able to swap it back and forth, but if it's going to cost half the value of the AEG then the RAS SD rail will have to do. Thank you guys for the help.

if he really wants a flash light there is a mount for the SD mp5s. it attaches to the silencer part

also he could get the RIS too

you can do it the SAS way and get some big scope rings a mount a maglite on top. Forget about using the sights though (The SAS actually did this before, since they don't use the sights very often in CQB and they didn't have lighted foregrips back then)

I have an MC51 with SBS conversion...it basically looks like a 7.62 MP5 SD6. I wanted to add a light to the front so I used this:

Theres a local Surefire authorized dealer near my house and they were able to special order the part for me for $60USD. The only problem was it took 8 weeks to get here since its typically shipped with and given priority to the Millennium series lights. Maybe you could just call Surefire directly. It works like a charm though...very sturdy and VERY spiffy when installed.

One thing commonly done is to attach a flaslight to the underside of the suppressor using large hose clamps (up to you to figure out how to make them black, paint maybe, I'd personally try gun bluing).

Hard to find a pic of what I mean, but I've seen it in gun magazines a few times, but would look like this (use a different flashlight though):

Or you can get something like this:

Wow, I didn't have a clue about that mounting ring. You guys are awesome. I'll pitch that idea to him and see what happens.
