First snow in Winnipeg, Winter CadPat?

well, winter is upon us. Just outside of Winnipeg, we have about half an inch of snow already and its been snowing for about 2 hours as of this posting.
So, since everyone was so helpful about answering my questions about cold damage to your guns, i thought i should ask some other winter related questions.
Mainly, anyone know if they make winter CADPAT? and where to get it? since is is a canadian disruptive pattern, im assuming they would make a white with varying shades of gray pattern also.
secondly, anyone recommend some winter gear like parkas and boots, gloves? i prefer not to freeze my butt off crouching in some snow trench. or worse end up stuck upside down in a hole for half an hour again (was actuallly funny though, i was laughing).
Finally, what gun do you prefer using in the snow?

Never heard of winter cadpat, there is winter cammo blanket type thing issued to soldiers to cover kit laid in snow, there are also winter whites which are just nylon pants/shirt that go over all your clothing.
There isnt much point in getting winter army kit as you wount be using AEGs in cold conditions, or wearing parka when its -3C outside.

you can pick up cheap winter cammo from any surplus store. although there is no winter cadpat.

IIRC Winter CADPAT was something that was being tested a few years ago. Though the Army boys here would know better than I. I do recall hearing it was a LONG way off.

I've seen an advertisement for winter digital style cammo. I saw it on this board too, i'm not sure what the title was thought wasn't to long ago.

None of the reserves I know have seen or used winter digital yet. So it might still be in the testing phase. (Either that or they're still looking for a budget to buy them)

The Winter CADPAT is actually a real thing coming down the pipe from CTS in the next couple of years. It's basically the same nylon shells as before but with a white/grey digital pattern. New snow shoes and the new cam net are part of the package.

sweet, ill be getting the winter cadpat when it comes out if its not insanely expensive, although i bet it will be. I duno why its not out already seems like such an obvoius thing for canada, and a useful thing for the mountains in afganistan.

And no, i dont use AEGs in the freezing cold, thats what my springers are for.

Well there's no rush for it...we already have the nylon shells, and those are fine for any arctic camoflage needs.

I have a set of German Pine Needle Winter cam that works phenominally well. Some of my teammates say I disappear in the bush with it.

Gryphon October 10th, 2006 23:51

I find winter camo is essentially useless unless you're down IN the snow. What better way to spot someone than to catch the movement of a giant white yeti against the dark brown/black colors of the leafless tree trunks? I find my faded tigerstripe blends with the color of the trees far better than any winter camo.

YMMV in your own terrain.

ACU works quite well in winter. Well in some places..

Lerch October 11th, 2006 11:18

Just use white bottoms...your legs are in the snow, the rest of you isn't, so camoflage yourself accordingly.
