Upgrading my MP7A1
 

Hi guys

Looking to do some upgrades to my MP7 to make it skirmishable. Would like to put a new spring in... What can I safely install that won't kill my mechbox (or opponents), mash the gears, and allow the gun to remain reliable. I assume I will have to install metal brushings as well. Please bear with me, as I am not an expert.
I would like to have the gun shooting in the 350fps range so I can do more than indoor play with it. I took it outside today and as is I don't think it will cut it (its pretty close, but not quite there).


What other upgrades do you guys think I should go for? I mounted my laser sight on the top rail, and am ordering a high cap mag (or two). Depending on how the upgrades go another battery is a possibility.

350 FPS is overly optimistic. Maybe 300 would be a little more reasonable. At this point there's not many out there who will have upgraded it. You would be the "guinea pig".

The MP7 was never intended to be a big primary weapon, more like a glorified AEP. As such, the design of the mechbox and components was never intended for that purpose.

I expected that- 300 would be okay. I am not looking to use the MP7 as a primary weapon, more of a hip holstered secondary to go with a rifle. So the question remains what would it take to improve velocity without damaging the gun? If there is no answer set in stone, does anyone have an educated guess?

Well, it'd be the same principle as upgrading an AEG, except you might not find all the parts you need and all the parts you have are more fragile.

If the cylinder is vented, an unvented cylinder should up the fps but at the cost of ROF. A more powerful spring will raise the fps significantly, but the question is what springs for AEP exist and how much punishment can an AEP's mechbox take. A tight bore inner barrel that's longer than stock should help a little, although you'll probably need a silencer to hide it in. Personally I'd aim for 270-280s and be fairly happy with that, as that's stock Tokyo Marui fps on many of their largest rifles.

wait, did you say you wanted 350 to use INDOORS? The hopup on the gun is pretty good at 250fps gets some great range. Not quite sure why you would need that much for an indoor place. I think the highest chrony out of arnie's is 280 and that's with tightbore, and pretty much every internal out there so far. I'm just too lazy to upgrade myself because no-one has seen reliability of the mp7 with internal upgrades.

No, i was interested in seing if I could get 320-350 out of it, so it could be used out doors. As an indoor, it is excellent as is. Also, very accurate for a full auto pistol.
Seems 300 give or take may be the best I can get. It is rated at ~250 stock, but feels like less.

Personally I'm looking at a tightbore for mine, based on my experience with stock powered full size AEGs; without adding power you can at least group shots useably at a longer range, allowing you to arc shots a bit more (which does extend range).

The battery life and ROF are actually pretty nice, so I don't want to go to a much stiffer spring.

Totally stock, it performs similarly to a blue gas (duster/hfc134a) -powered pistol, and if used that way (which is pretty much like the real one; CQB and defensive weapon) I think with the tightbore it'll be useable outdoors (non-gas mid-range pistol with mad full auto reliability/useability in all weather).

(I plan on using it as a complimentary weapon for closer range engagements when fielding my very upgraded SR).

Who makes the tightbore you were looking at? (link would be great)

I also essentially plan on using the mp7 for CQC situations.

I've had good results with KM in other AEGs so I was looking at theirs (http://www.wgcshop.com/pcart/shopper...s%20for%20AEGs), but there's a Nine Ball one (http://www.wgcshop.com/pcart/shopper...-IBM7_srch_mp7), slightly smaller diameter. Don't know if it'll make much of a difference compared to the KM one.
