Piston and piston head...

OK, I'm building up my RPK, and in my opinion, the noise of the gun makes a good part of the 'fear' factor. I've seen a number of different Piston and Piston head to silence your gun, but does the reverse exist? Some noise enhancing piston head? One that makes a nice and loud 'TACK'!

depends on how fast you want to crack your mechbox

Just get a good polycarbonate piston and non aluminium vented piston head

Spitfire June 14th, 2006 10:59

buy deepfire piston! those are very good!
head... silicon pistonhead... i youd not recomend you anything in aluminium... it kills you GB...

shouldn't v3 gearboxes handle the stress better? I'd recommend a guarder steel cylinder head and an aluminum piston head.

Brian, Where are you now, are you suppose to be on vacation in Hong Kong ?
I also have some questions for you about a RPK conversion...But I can wait till you are back from HK.

Well I cracked my gen 3 box with a top power aluminium piston and piston head. The spring is a systema m120 andt eh cylinder head is stock TM...

ok, ok, ok.. I probably cycled over 150k rounds thruw her but still... I did crack a gen 3

I'm keeping away from aluminum. I had an aluminum piston in there before, and it shreded all around the gear box. I only have a pdi120 in there, so not a problem. The thing is I'm not aiming for either precision nor maxing FPSs, but focussing on RoF and loudness.

So, A steel cylinder with an aluminum head (proposed by illusion)
or a polycarbonate piston and non aluminium vented piston head (proposed by Vondnik)
or a deepfire silicon piston head (proposed by Spitfire)

I will put a lot of BBs throught this gun, I did not buy a drum barrel JUST for the look (ok, it did play a good part, but still, I am trigger happy :) )

I've checked Arnie's and other sites, but can't find any real comparison on pistons/cylinder/heads... (there are 348927 articles on springs do...) it seems all people want if high FPSs.

Thanks for that info, vondnik. I wasn't aware of v3 breakage and it's good to know under what conditions it would break.

longshot, I'm still in Hong Kong. shoot me your queries by PM. I'm just on some downtime right now, resting from my travels to date.

I can't believe my eyes too when I saw a v3 gearboxes in a TM MP5K cracked like a V2. My first question is HowDaHell did that happen. My second question is WhoDaHell shoots a 400fps MP5k.

400fps spring and aluminum piston head are the gearbox killer combo.

I've seen this setup in a mp5 pdw:

Super torque up gears
systema polycabonate piston
silent piston head
mp5 pdw systema tightbore barrel
metal bushings
12 volt battery pack

and a systema m150

hook up a mp5 c-mag..... cqb anyone?

You don't really need an aluminum piston head to make a lot of noise. Most of the report the enemy will hear would be the sudden release of air from the muzzle rather than the clacking of the piston head. Once you start compressing air faster with a heavier spring the volume of the report from the muzzle starts to increase. I have a 400 fps spring in my CA249 as its only upgrade and it sounds like a GBB rifle firing when you're in front of it.
