WWII German Gear
 

Hey all, this is my German gear to date. I have ordered a pair of Jackboots from Lost Battalions a number of weeks ago and they should be here by next week. A few more items and I will have a full impression. The tunic is the HBT Reed Green Summer Tunic. And yes, before any of you comment, the Waffen SS did use the Heer version of the 1940 summer tunic. How I know this, from a relative that served in the Waffen SS during the Russian Campaign and verification from a number of online resources as well. Coments?

Very nice. One suggestion, head to Landser.com an' pick up some real-issue ammo pouches an' you will have a sexy set of gear. I'm amazed the repro ones fit the belt. The last few people who ordered those (from various sources) ended up with not being able to use them because of a design flaw :S

It looks the same a British in a few cases, yes, but the Canadian gear was uniquely our own. Made in Canada, for Canadians (There is a arrow inclosed in a C to denote this on our webbing) Our uniforms were also green'er' then the British. *looks around innocently* I didn't pick up a bunch of Canadian gear recently...*snickers evilly*

Repo Pouches
 

Where did those guys get their pouches from that would not fit. The ones I have are from England, and are very well made. I should have opened them up because they contain Original K98 ammo on the original strippers. Ammo and strippers are dated from 1938 and I have the original cardboard ammo boxes for them as well. Both pouches are full with a total of 60 rounds of ammo. The ammo has been drained of powder and primer has been fired and then bullet reinserted back in casing. It is quite amazing to see this original ammo.

Two of the incorrect sets were purchased from 1944militaria, along with the belts. Lovely eh?

Ya I would say....to bad that some dealers are selling crap like that but you have to pay particular attention. I did alot of equipment research before ordering this set and must say they are probably the best repos of pouches I have seen out there. They even have the interior divider as well. I will post another pic of the ammo in the pouches tonight sometime. Also for all you that have the Marushin Kar98, you can get it to accept real stripper clips quite easily by taking a very fine file and filing down the stipper insert just a tiny amount. You would never now it has been done and it accepts the real stippers very very nicely.

Very Nice setup, I think I will get the same helmet you got, except from military tour. it looks definately authentic enough. What made you choose to go with the HBT instead of wool ?

I am on my way to set up a uniform as well.
So far I ordered a k98 and a y-strap.
I guess it all goes by baby steps.

Oberst If you could tell me where you got the Bayonet from Id appreciate it, I'd love to have a bayonet as well.

I chose the HBT Summer tunic over the wool as it is a little more uncommon and just that much more unique. In speaking with my Great Uncle whom served in the Waffen SS, he told me that alot of the men in his division prefered this tunic because of its light weight and the heavier wool one often caused the rashes and so on in warmer weather. He did say they were hard to get but most of the men were able to get them. I have tried the wool one as well and we all know how heavy and hot they can get. Also, I found with the grey wool M40 trousers, the HBT tunic looks a little sharper.
Another consideration was that if I ever get into reenacting in the summer months, the HBT would just be a little more comfortable and I would not be unauthentic.
