Hunting Camo - Is it any good?

No bashing :)

Have you ever seen anyone in the field using hunting camo like Mossy Oak, Advantage, etc.? Did you see any that were quite effective? If so, what ones?

trufret January 11th, 2006 22:05

it's quite effective in the fall since thast what it was designed for but in the spring and summer i'd rather have cadpat or woodland. i used to use it for paintball but I picked up a set of Cadpat BDUs for airsoft

Yeah, for sure it works. but I personally find that most hunting camo is a solid camo pattern(Don't know if proper words are used) Like branches, leaves etc... so if you ever move... It's like a walking branch, kinda un~natural.. If camping/sniping it would work.
I'm sure someone would disagree, that's just my take on it...

its great if your not moving

It's great if you want everyone else on the field to laugh at you. I know I would.

exactly, its designed for still ( tree stand or blind) hunting......ans I have seen pics of SF snipers with it...you may laugh at some fella wearing it as its not manstream l337 but it works.

i bought a camo jacket cheap from walmart for my first game(it has been nicknamed Deer standing in the forest) and the guys had a hell of a time seeing me if was standing still, but i stood out badly everytime i moved. i have moved on to cadpat or multicam, depending on the terrain. if you dont have the extra coin to spend on military styled camo, just get what you can afford, most mature players will understand and appreciate the effort and not laugh you off the feild.

Why not just wear OD? It'll probably work about as well and could cost less. Besides, a BDU's primary use is to provide easy access to your equipment and supplies. Unless you've got a vest or some sort of load bearing rig, you're going to be using your BDU pockets, and you should look for usefulnes on that front.

i hav a dark pair, looks kinda like tree bark, it works as long as u camp. its only effective in fall really. had em for the longest time.
ill be usin em for the SG game this yr at FR.

Lerch January 12th, 2006 02:46

However, I remember hunting jackets having pockets...

Like others have said, it'll work great if your standing still. Remember, it's basically a photo of leaves/bark/stick/etc.. printed on a jacket. When was the last time you saw sticks running around?
I would recommend some sort of load-bearing gear (even and Allen Belt) since hunting gear isn't made for the same use as BDU's.

OD work verrrry well in most field.
Better than those stylish real tree hunting camo.

Airsoft is about realism. If you are not that desperate, take a little more time to get a real BDU. People will apreciate you for not screwing the ambiance of milsim hehe.

My first ever camo uniform was a super leet Canadian tiger stripe hunting kit. It worked well, but looked a little out of place

I still have the kit. I plan to use it if I ever play a terrorist or any other type of non military role in a game.

alex_c_t January 12th, 2006 08:16

its good early in the spring and autumn, and if youre not moving and just standing still and mostly on wooded terrain. problem with it is that most games happen during summer and thats when cadpat is most effective.

of course, it might help if you filled in your location... green camo wont help if you play on a cqb field or in a quarry field (replica desert)...

Great camo if you're stationary, crap fabric though.

Boombap January 12th, 2006 15:48

I've seen people using it, I don't knock them for it though
