Emerson Combat Pants Opinions?

Been thinking about getting a pair of repro crye precision combat pants, the ones with the integrated knee pads.

Just looking for opinions on build and sizing.

I'm not sure what the difference is between the repro G2 and G3s, besides maybe pocket placement? Seems like some have the stretchy fabric at the knees, and others don't.

In particular I'm looking at the Emerson-branded ones.

Gen 2?

Gen 3? Different Knee pads?

there sized on Asian framed people so you may have have a hard time finding a size if your on the bigger side,as there XL is like a medium in normal pants.

They also fade after 2 or 3 washes :|.

Would save for a real pair @_@.

I wear a size 30 Levi's Jean with a belt, but I could probably fit into a 29 since 30 has space.

I'm just wondering if their 30 is equivalent to ours.

waylander April 22nd, 2015 17:50

How tall are you? I'm about a 33 waist, 165lbs and 5'10" and the medium is a snug fit. I only use mine for indoors as the fabric is quite a bit lighter than good combat pants but they are better if you sweat a lot.

How about this....

How Much with these Things save you Over a TruSpec,Or Better.

Then consider These will last 1/10 at Best as long as a good Pair.

And then Lastly, Buying Asian Fit is Just That... Asian Fit.

Buying cheap ends up being, buying multiple times.
Emerson is Very low end gear.

waylander April 22nd, 2015 18:41

Yep, Emerson is low end but that doesn't mean they don't have a market. Unfortunately, not everyone can afford better.

I'm also interested in where you got your 1/10 at best number from? Is that scientific research or just an opinion?

Maybe he's asian? If he's really a 30" then the fit will be no problem for him.

Don't bash it because it's cheap... sometimes you want a second pair in case your primary pair is in the wash, sometimes you want something (like me) for indoors where it gets damn hot and you don't need the durability for running through bush. I do have 5 pairs of BDU's, another pair of black emerson (again for indoors) and 4 pairs of truspec or better for outdoors.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying these are awesome pants, just that they aren't completely useless and at half the price and half the weight they were perfect for me to buy for indoors... and yes I'm asian... imagine that....

As a note, I've worn mine for about 20 indoor sessions lasting from 3 hours to 10 hours and washed after every game. Yep they have faded a bit but that happens with all clothes but know what? They are still fine, not a stitch out of place, it's not falling apart, besides the fading in fact they still look barely used.

So just to be clear, everyone giving their opinion on these pants... do you actually own a pair?

The difference in knee pads is the first photo is a copy of the Crye Gen 1-2 AC kneepad. They didn't flex alot, which can be good or bad.

The second photo is the copy of the Crye Airflex kneepad. They are Gen 2-3, are a little lighter with cuts in the padding and are more flexible. Sometimes they flex a bit too much and a side or top can pop out a bit.

This is commentary about the real Crye pads. YMMV with clones.

Its hard to say if the 30 is the same but I'm guessing not.I really would recommend trying a pair first before buying. perhaps a friend has a pair or a local shop. its hard to guess what size fits by looking at a pic on the internet.

5'-6" 130-140lbs depending on the week.

Are your regular pants a 33, or are you saying when you measure your waist you're 33"?

The weight of the fabric was also a concern. I have a pair of ACM paratropper-style pants that definitely can't stand up to a beating outdoors.

Not Asian :P

The other ACM pants I have were listed as 32" when I bought them, and they fit more like a 30".

Emerson is Very low end gear.

Assuming Crye is high end ($200+), and TMC/Emerson is low-end ($40-$50) would you recommend something in the middle ($100).

redzaku April 22nd, 2015 19:29

Why not get the ops tactical pants from ur tactical?
Right now I am trying out some mil-Tec warrior pants, right now they feel awesome

I'm really a 32" but wear 33" for comfort most of the time. The medium will be fine for you, maybe an inch or two long in the pants but keep in mind they are slimmer fitting. I personally prefer that rather than really baggy pants. Keep in mind, standard BDU pants ARE going to be super baggy on a thin frame like yours.

There are a lot of choices out there. If there is a surplus shop near you I'd suggest going to try some. Truspec and Propper are a couple of middle of the road manufacturers. UR Tactical is a bit pricier with Crye right there at the top.

Try to keep in mind, we don't wear these things 24/7 for weeks at a time in the field, IMO you don't need $200 pants to play 3-4 times a month.
