Kokanee's Yugo M70AB2 build
Starting a new build project for 2014 after completing my Mosin build last year (http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=156408), a Yugo M70AB2.
First of all props to those who have gone before me, FIDO on Red Alliance and his build has always kept the desire for a M70 build of my own on the backburner.... So I trucked a M70AB2 parts kit up from the states a few years ago and it's been sitting on a shelf ever since. Nice kit w/ trench art on the wood. Today finished major sculpting on the distinctive yugo pistol grip; http://i.imgur.com/5pcIzT7.jpg Going to get cracking on the details and then cast up a resin copy for actual use. |
|
Oh my friggin GAWD, I can't wait to see the final product! Also, please let me know if you're going to do a batch of those grips for AEGs cause I'm still very interested.

Finished the grip;

Fresh out of the mold!
http://i.imgur.com/XW8ygdk.jpg Test fit on the rifle; http://i.imgur.com/UsRY4Br.jpg Almost a 100% perfect cast; a few things need tweaking and then will be ready to pump out a final test copy, and some extras for grabs.... |
Nice work, looks pretty cool.
What kind of casting material did you use? |
I'm using smooth on brand materials.

Tho I don't exactly know what you are doing but based on the process you showed, it's really nice and detail done so far and something good for me to learn! One day when I'm working on something similar, I may have to ask you questions. Thank you.

Anytime feel free to ask.

Looking grreatttt!!! is that mold star? Are you using smoothcast 321 for colour matching? What kind of shore hardness is acceptable for tensile(and compressive)strength for man-handled parts? i feel like whatever resin im using would break; thanks in advance for the answers mate:D
|
Smoothcast Onyx for the grip, tensile strength is 5000+ psi and compression is 8000+ psi. For the molds I am using oomoo 25.

I decided to fit the real rear sight base I had kicking around;
http://i.imgur.com/5QbwMXP.jpg Going to have to cast a small part to fill the gap between the rear sight base and trunnion as pictured below; a small issue with the LCT receiver is of course the trunnion is not correct for a Yugo AK. http://i.imgur.com/rF2njVq.jpg As well modified the bolt to slide under the rear sight base as required and sanded off the bluing/epoxy that LCT uses on their bolts. For others info, the reference book I am using is "The Grim Reaper", a collection of pictures and information on all known Kalashnikovs and variants from around the world; http://i.imgur.com/BxyQlq6.jpg My LCT barrel does not have threads, and the OD is too large to fit my yugo FSB so I came up with this solution; http://i.imgur.com/D8Q6mQh.jpg Going to JB weld and pin the parts together, will be solid and do the trick. Engraving this weekend, should be able to throw a mechbox in it in a few days. |
Upward and onward!
http://i.imgur.com/KNgmrwg.jpg Overall getting pretty close to being finished, just need to overhaul the gearbox for this project, get a selector switch and install the dust cover release mechanism. http://i.imgur.com/9DoO5Uw.jpg All barrel components pinned into place; broke two drill bits on this tough Yugo steel. http://i.imgur.com/fT8Y7FQ.jpg Selector markings and serial numbers. |
Awesome.
