F2000 noise and vibration dampening.
 

I am in love with my F2000 but, it has always been noisy. The noise due mostly to the fact that the body is one huge resonance chamber. One trip to the craft store, $5 dollars of adhesive foam, 2 paper cuts and 10 hours later I came up with this solution:

The soft foam acts as a vibration dampener all throughout the body. It has taken the sharp whack off the gearbox's cycling noise. In future I hope to add a sorbo and tightbore to further reduce the noise.

You could have just filled it with expansion foam like we've been doing on sniper rifles for over 7 years lol
But good idea nevertheless

I wanted to all the moving parts to work after the mod.

All you have to do is lay plastic wrap inside the gun, expansion foam it, lift the mould you've now made out, and scrape away whatever doesn't need to be there

This post has "win" written all over it.

I see what you mean now. Although you must admit it is a little simpler with BA sniper rifle bodies. The trouble would be around the gearbox, and its weird outboard trigger contacts.

Nice. I wish there were more cavities in an M4 for these kinds of shenanigans. About the only place inside of the receiver that I can think of is the hopup space (which is big enough for the shock transfer system (STS)), and perhaps the space where the charging handle space.

A more effective material would be audio acoustic dampening material, like the stuff they've used in automotive audio for years. The most popular brand is www.dynamat.com. It's quite pricey, but very effective stuff.

In any case, awesome job. I've been thinking of doing this to my P90 for years, but just never got around to it.

I tried to get a hold of acoustic dampening foam, but it is pricey and only normally available in wholesale quantity.

Any local car audio shop should carry it. I've even seen it for sale at Best Buy and Future Shop in their automotive audio departments. That's where I picked up a roll of it many years ago when I was into making my car panels rattle...

Well now I suggest you get a mock silencer to "account" for your new quite gun... This will allow you to get a longer tight bore in the bargain.

I have a King Arms 13" suppressor for my SC20K MAWS look. With that baby on I can accommodate a 755mm barrel
