Which rifle for short range?
 

So, I just got an inexpensive pistol and considering a rifle. I shoot indoors up to 28 feet but being able to get target groups of less than 2 inches is important.
Is this possible ( with hop up adjustment)?
Do I need a bi-pod or just a rest for sitting position on a chair behind a table?
What power scope?
Should it be a bolt action sniper?
How much do I REALLY have to spend?
I have seen a few reviews on the new ASG AW .308. light weight- under $200 but waiting to see more accuracy results for this one.
I don't want to get into $$$ equipment , mods and tweaking. Just want it to do the job consistently-plain and simple.
Any advice will be appreciated!

A bolt action rifle for close quarters is definietly the way to go.

But realistically, are you planning on using this 'short range rifle' for actual games or just plinking? If it's the latter, get whatever you like the most...

Those criteria don't sound very hard to fulfill at all, except for maybe the price. You might be able to get those groupings with a decent pistol, and a decent rifle will do this even easier. You definitely don't need a bipod, and shouldn't even need a rest for the gun.
You definitely don't need any sort of scope for just 28 feet. If you really want magnification, I'd say 2x at most...3x is pushing it.

If you're just plinking, it's up to you whether you get a bolt action or not. It's your preference, really.

The problem I see is getting a cheap gun with consistency. That is usually the realm of guns over that price range, but still, a stock gun of any decent quality should do the trick, I would think.

You're asking for too much for too little.

You're also asking for something that doesn't really fit well into a close quarters role. You're honestly just better off accuracizing an AEG and cutting it off to Semi Auto or something.

If anything ,I did see a mod where a guy cut down a cheap VSR-10 clone down to nothing, i'm not sure if accuracy was compromised due to doing so though.

Open up your budget and the possibilities are endless.

Sniper rifles are more for the 200-300ft engagement range
Pretty well any airsoft pistol out there is going to get 2" groupings or better at just 28 feet. In fact, most of them get 2 inch groupings at, or past, 50 feet
Buy a pistol for $200-$300, it's the only gun you'll ever need for CQB

Why would you need a bi-pod for indoor use?

I don't even really understand your post. What is it you're trying to faciliate? Are you playing indoor scrimmages? Shooting some targets in your basement?

As stated, just me shooting targets up to 28/30 feet.Agreed, bi-pod not required. I could make up some rest for table top supported shooting.
Just like the idea of having a capable rifle to alternate from pistol and leaning toward a bolt action springer.

If it's just marksman shooting you are planning, and no actual airsoft events that you wish to attend - perhaps airsoft is the wrong tool for the job?

What i'm suggesting - the ballistic properties of airsoft are inferior to that of pellet guns - and i think you'd be able to get a darn nice pellet gun for your money, vs an airsoft rifle.

Just a suggestion.

And if you want something other than the iron sights a nice red dot would fit the bill at those close ranges!

I do understand the limitations of airsoft vs. pellet or steel 4.5 bbs with regard to consistent accuracy potential. I have some good pellet and bb pistols which prove that out. I was just pondering air soft as a satisfying alternative hobby venture on my own at home. However from opinions and info I have gathered , I'm likely to be disappointed with the results after spending about $300 for rifle and optics (which is the max for me.)
It doesn't help being lured by the cosmetic appeal of some airsoft equipment I have seen.
