orange cap/tip in Canada
 

Hi guys, got a question regarding the orange cap/tip on airsoft. Now I've heard Orange cap/tip aren't necessary in Canada as its strictly an States tradition. Which might explains why most retailer sell their guns without any.

Long ago I bought a G36K by SRC. The rifle came with a orange cap. I asked several retailers and they said that only guns from Asian countries comes with the cap, North American countries don't, and only rifles not handguns.

The reason I ask is because aside from gaming, I found the gun to be a nice prop to go with a costume for the multi-genre convention (Fanexpo) once a year. During the convention, I saw quite a few people with airsoft guns, some with orange cap and without. While there are police presence, they don't seem to be stopping every person with a gun to make sure its not real. However occasionally they did ask to check some people's gun when it didn't have an orange cap and looked too realistic.

My question is what are my choices when it comes to getting an orange cap? Alternatively is painting the barrel orange effective enough? Thank you.

Don't bring your airsoft in public.

well I'm not actively waving the gun around as if threatening to shoot anyone, and I only take out the gun at the convention space (kept in a duffle bag on the trip over) The general public is pretty accepting probably because they've seen a lot of weapon props at conventions, and a mere sight of someone with a gun won't automatically results in "he's got a gun, someone call the cops, screams"

Of course, there are times where I have to take the gun with me outside the convention (no place to leave it around) to get food. I sling it over the shoulder and have the magazine removed, can't be a threat like that.

Having an orange cap will reduce the chance of cops stopping me for an inspection, and more than likely to stop them from pulling their real gun on me. I'll play by the rules, but I certainly don't want to lose my life over a misunderstanding.

FYI insert Mag, pull charging handle, remove mag. Now there is 1 round in the chamber. Just cause there is no mag it does not mean it is safe.

in the event that someone does freakout because of it, I just prove to them that its not real (nor functioning, magazine is broken to the point it barely stays in) I'm not out to hurt people, got nothing to hide. Its just a prop, plain an simple.

Is there any company that sells colored caps as accessory? Since some rifles comes with it, but almost never with handguns.

There was a guy last year who was at another convention and decided to sling his M4 on his back and walk outside. I believe 5 separate 911 calls were made. He was surrounded by cruisers in minutes.

I was at last year's fan expo. There was an airsoft P90 for a Stargate impression and another M4 for a MW2 Ghost impression. If theres the slightest chance that something can go wrong (and in this case there is), its not worth it. It could be scared kids or overprotective parents that can set something off. Seriously, dont do it.

Just because you wanna be pigheaded about bringing to a convention once a year, you want to risk fucking things up for the rest of us who are in the sport all year round;

Just because there are other retards already doing it doesn't mean you should contribute to the problem.

If you really want to bring something bring a prop made from a NERF gun or at least a clear airsoft from CT/walmart (and leave it clear so it can be easily identified as a toy). Like people already explained, there's people getting arrested by overzealous cops for way less than this: don't be stupid.

To answer your question, yes the orange tip is an American law which state that all airsoft guns to have an orange tip. Canada doesn't have that kind of law or anything which state we need to paint our gun tip any colour, rifles or hand guns. Now having your gun out in public for everyone to see is a HUGE no no and highly recommended that you don't. But because this is part of a costume and a lot of people will have some type of weapon, I think it should be ok. BUT, only have it out to be viewed while indoors at the convention and in costume. Other wise, it should be left in a case/bag and out of sight from the general public. Having the orange tip will reduce the chance of a soccer mom freaking out. But not having it is not against the law. Remove the gearbox if you can and leave the mag out until you are taking a photo or something. Be safe and don't ever point the muzzle at anyone or thing while walking around. Keep it pointed down is the best bet. Just don't be stupid.
