Poncho liner/Ranger blanket
 

Recently bought a new military issue poncho, and want to get a relatively warm liner for it, what is worth looking at cost eectiveness (have my eye on CF issue liners on ebay for cheap), and know there are many other liners out there of varying quality, etc. (CP Gear has a US made one for $60, where does this compare to the $30 CF issue one I can get).

I have the old issued Ranger blanket and love it. I also have a CP gear(i assume you are speaking of the sililar one to the issued one not the fleece bag liner) one and it is similar but does not seem to keep me as warm. My issued one has lasted me almost 10yrs, i have spent many nights with only it and a biv bag when going backpacking with friends and even used it a few times with the army(when i could get sleep and the killer bunnies were not coming across the open field.[inside joke from my SQ way back in the day])


Honestly i would go with the issued one if i had to choose. i think they come in cadpat now but mine is the old US woodland pattern.

PS why do you need a ranger blanket? your CDN_Stalker you can just scare the bush into keeping you warm.

The poncho liner provides zero heat retention. I can't even use it as a blanket in mid summer.

It makes a fine backdrop for pictures though. That is all I use it for.

You have a shit ranger blanket then. I have the 782 gear smoke kloke poncho which rocks. You can also get a kifaru woobie or doobie or wild things tactical makes one.

I have the issued CADPAT ranger blanket. It worked great for me on SQ in my trench at night when it got cold. I'm not entirely sure of the quality/legitimacy of the eBay liners that are listed but I can vouch for the issued ranger blanket. Obviously it won't stand up to below zero temperatures but if you find yourself getting cold in your sleeping bag at night, the ranger blanket is a lightweight piece of kit that actually helps keep you warm.

The CF used to issue a solid OD one that was quilted and heavy. The " Ranger Blanket " that most troopies refer to is the "US" woodland poncho liner, adopted by the Canucks, that's light and legendary Toasty. It's hard to miss for $30. But make sure you're getting the real issue one, not the chinese copies in a wack of gucci flages. I just got some in real good shape dude. :)
and FYI CDN_Stalker is using the Ranger Blanket to keep the orphans he rescues warm till the SAR-Tech guys get there.

Overall I'm looking at smaller and lighter options to what I'm used to, and a good rugged blanket would be great to have, means I don't have to get my nice wool ones dirty.

Yeah I have these in. Grr, is not even close to how much I dislike my current Site. The new one is close to being released and you'll like that a lot better.
I have a dozen In Store ATM and 4 look like they were Issued to Generals (Issued but never Used)

Looks like I'll be ordering one from you then, been wanting to get a wool blanket from you for a while also. Since your site is kinda fubar right now, do it the old fashioned way?

I think I still have one of those...I know I used to. I might have to pick up another one since they're frickin awesome...I remember many a frosty night in Pet where my Ranger Blanket was a godsend.

There were two different Rangers with the Zips. One of the kit shops Farmed a bunch out to a local Seamstress and Cut necks and added the border Zips. on the US wdld Ranger Blankies. I have only heard of these as No one who has one would ever turn it in for Surplus Disposal. The Other was the most recent Issue Cadpat Blankie withthe Neck hole w/ Zip and CBorder Zip. Those were breifly available through the Kit shops as well but have since Disappeared. I had a whack for a while in 2008/9 (ish) But none left now.
I have now a Commercially made Cadpat (ish) Fleece Blanket that has the Border Zip. Makes a sweet Bag Liner, and would be great in the warmer months lining the Goretex Bivy. But it doesn't have the field proven qualities of the reg Ranger Blanket.
